crucial ddr is really good. their 256 modules overclock to 160+fsb. some people even got it up to 190+. now that's good ram.

from what I've heard, yes. They supposedly have stopped using Micron chips, but I heard they're going the Infineon route. I really do't see this as goods news for Crucial in the performance market, but honestly, we are a very small minority who overclock and push ram speeds (how many people even know what Cas speed is???) I've always used Crucial until my current pc, and now I think I'm going to stick with corsair.

Crucial is a division of Micron, so I'd be amazed if they aren't using Micron chips.... I bought some Corsair PC2400 recently, works great in my Dragon plus. The people at Fry's (yeah, I know!) showed me an internal memo advising against Mushkin on any Via board due to incompatibilities, but OK for AMD/SIS chipsets .

Micron (MT) RAM chips are used on lots of generic memory, the quality of the PCB and manufacturing process is the issue. With Corsair/Crucial/Mushkin you know you are getting quality RAM chips on a quality PCB, that is not true with all RAM bearing Micron Techology chips. I've used generic stuff and it mostly works OK, but the price difference is not that great on a nice system that I would want to screw around with system instability due to crappy RAM, there's enough other things that can give you headaches without looking for trouble.

It's true. The 512mb DDR Crucial sticks use Infineon (sp?) chips. That doesn't necessarily mean they are of lower quality though...

Maybe we need to harass someone who has a 512mb DDR stick from Crucial in their box and find out how it performs under stressful timings

I normally use Crucial, but I have a couple of sticks of Muskin. Both are good. I recently bought 2 sticks of Kingmax 333 and it solved a problem with overclocking.

Greatwolf and Draco are right, just confirmed by Crucial as to the 512MB sticks only.
