What is the best game you ever played?

Well Mine was Goldeneye on the N64! I played overnight nonstop when it came into the house.

What is the best game EVER made? I don't have one except Goldeneye.

i don't think i have ever had a feeling like i did when i first played mario 64.

either mario 64 or zelda LTTP is the best game ever IMO.

but there was just something about mario in 3d for the first time, that gave me a feeling that could never be matched again.

Skies of Arcadia, Ogre Battle 64, and Harvest Moon 64 all rank up there as games I just loved to 'play', even after I'd beaten them.

Yeah man! EXACT same thing here. Today we see graphic upgrades all the time, but nothing amazed me like Super Mario 64 (first N64 game I ever saw). Not only does it look amazing, it's also one of the best games I've ever played. As far as a single player game goes, I say it is the best.

I know you didn't ask us to separate them like this, but when it comes to Multiplayer, I say Halo 1 on Xbox. You had to use tunneling software on your PC to play it online - it was a bit laggy since the game was only designed to be played over system link, plus you couldn't communicate with teammates. Still, hands down most fun I've ever had playing a video game. For the longest time I wanted to see the game re-made for Xbox Live - I mean the exact same game except with Xbox Live added. 343 Studios announced that they would make a remake of Halo 1 so I was really excited, then out of nowhere they decided that instead of re-making the multiplayer aspect of Halo 1 they would design the Halo 1 maps for Halo Reach and package those with their "Halo Anniversary" game... Can't say it's the best game I've ever played but it's the one I played the most and never got tired of and really wish it was available in some form for one of the consoles.

With rose colored glasses, probably either NHL 93/94 or Hardball 3, both on Genesis.
But man, Red Dead Redemption and Fallout 3's story and environments totally rocked me silly. I'm a sucker for westerns though.

Lunar the Silver Star. Yes it was Sega CD, hardly anyone played it until it got remade on the PS1 but first time playing it on the Sega CD showed the future of CD and everything it could do. The awesome animation wowed me.

Mario in 3D was epic! It really is tough to pick one, since each console and generation had it's list of classics. It's hard to compare Mario and Zelda on the N64 to the SNES counterparts. FF3 on the SNES is one of my all time greats though, and my favorite RPG of all time.

Consoles? Dang that is a tough one. So many excellent games. I probably put the most time into Goldeneye... I got so good at the game I could play through the game on 00 Agent only dying a few times and beat it within one sitting.

FFVII was good because of a play through with someone else. Mario 64 was also epic.

Batman AA was one of the best games I've played in the longest time. Very refreshing.

For PC it is a no brainer - Diablo. It was epic immersion and tons of hours played, followed by Diablo II. Other honorable mentions: HL / HL2 / CS (Counterstrike in the beta <back when it was well before 1.0> was great times).

Also Duke 3D was a good first experience.

It was the single reason I bought the N64 and I still have warm memories of playing it even now.

It's tough - I agree that NHL 94-94 for Sega were great games (wasn' there year they took figting out and everybody got pissed?).

But Tomb Raider was a cut above them all. I had never seen anything like that before; it blew me away. I played TR to some extent for probably 10 years

And Romance of the Three Kingdoms for NES compelled me the most as a kid.

FF6-9 were all Incredible each in their own way.

Starsiege Tribes 1-2 were fantastic multiplayer experiences. So much so that I cant get into newer online FPS's as they bore me to death.

Max Payne 1 was amazing storytelling

Under appreciated game but Undying was damn immersive. The use of sound really played with your head.

Painkiller was just damn fun.

Uncharted 2 's scripted sequences blew me away. When the hotel starts to collapse around you I bled tears of joy.

Day of the Tentacle was a fantastic witty silly game. Same with Grim Fandango.

Beyond good and Evil made me care about the characters and play in a style I never enjoyed(Stealth)

Chronicles of Riddick EFBB had a compelling story along with stealth mechanics that didn't punish you. Amazing game.


Conkers Bad Fur Day had me in hysterical fits of laughter for hours on end.

Okami was beautiful and a joy to play.

Kingdom Hearts showed me what I loved growing up, with a modern flair along with more adult topics.

Since we're talking about consoles, it's gotta be The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I will happily play that game any day, over and over, all day long.

For PC games, that one's also easy. Homeworld.

Max Payne 1 was amazing storytelling

I remember playing that and quitting about 5 minutes (seemed like 50) into some annoying dream sequence.
