If you want to save a couple of bucks I advice the venerable, extra reliable ECS Elitegroup MB Socket478 P4VXASD2 VIA P4X266A(2D+2DDR,SB,U100) for only $55. One heck of a deal, isn't it?

get the epox 4g4a, read reviews, its known as one of the best overclockers there is, it has onboard sound, ethernet, and video, but just don't use it, its very fast, reliable, and the best overclocker....

150 most likely, I wouldn't expect more than that at Cas 2-2-2-5.

There are official threads for the Asus, Abit, and Epox 845G boards. All have their good points, so I suggest you read those. But if money is no object I'd get the Asus.

I would wait till Dual Channel DDR comes out, but if not. The I845G chipsets are the best ones right now. Paired up with some Samsung PC2700 ram. Or if you can afford it Mushkin OR CORSAIR PC3000, 3200 ram. Btw, I think if your going to buy ram, but it within the next 24 hours. Everyone is saying ram prices are going up, which is true.

And if I were to get a Motherboard, it will have to be a Asus one.

When can we expect to see dual channel DDR and what kind of increase in performance?

I dont know the performance off the top of my head, but i know it beats the Rambus / Pentium4 setup really well.

I'm getting the Asus P4T533 w/512MB 32-bit 1066MHz RDRAM when it comes out. It'll be the new King of the Hill. Lotsa $$$$ though.

And wait for the new P4 form factor CPU's after Jul 22.

I'm partial to Abit myself. I'd check into those...I'm liking the new mobos that remove legacy parts like PS2 ports and replace them with extra USB.

If you can wait then wait for the Asus P4T533 (RDRAM) to come in about another week. If not, the Abit IT7(DDR)is proving to consistantly hit 2.7 with Costa Rica 1.6a's with pack dates later than 4/30/02 and some good Corsair XMS3000. Abit's IT7 and the BG7 are both excellent choices for DDR boards while the P4T533 still seems to be the RDRAM board of choice even though it's not yet available. There are other good RDRAM boards out there but if your saying price is not an issue then you will probably be kicking yourself in the arse for not waiting for the ASUS board. Now the PC1066 Ram for it is another issue.........

If money is no object, definitely wait for the Asus board & get Samsung PC1066 RDRAM.

...surprised that nobody recommended Intel boards.

I've got one a couple of months ago (D850MVL), and while I wasn't originally sure if I made the right pick (used ABIT's before almost exclusivelly), now I don't regret at all. While there is virtually no twaking available, the board is rock-solid stable and 100% compatible (have both WinXP and SuSE dual booting now). The BIOS is being regularly updated too (5-6 updates at least since February2002)

Unless planning overclocking, I would buy another Intel again. The only drawback is higher price compared to other brands.

pls disregard, just noticed you WANTED overclocking board sorry

I too have been searching for a p4 mobo for my 1.6a. Been reading about all these 845g boards and all of em seem to have mix reviews except for the asus but thats too expensive for me . Now whats this thing about the new asus board?

I tried to start a thread earlier....but due to the lack of responses I'm guessing not many others share my view that right now what might be one of the bests boards for the P4 seems to be from VIA

So heres what I'll probably buy myself in a couple of weeks.

VIA P4PB 400, read some reviews and remember this...this is using DDR which I think is currently cheaper than RDR1066!

P4PB 400 from Via!
