The system I have now is mine..(Top dual-core CPU + Top single GPU)...but my 66mhz Packard Bell with 128MB of RAM was pretty slick at the time (Im thinking mid-90s?) I could run Doom and Duke Nukem no problem....

Slot 1 celeron 300 @ 450Mhz/ 512Mb sdram/ Riva tnt... that was one hella machine back in the day. And lasted me longest.

EDIT:
Well, of course the one I have now is "best". Q6600/4Gb/Asus 8800 GTS 512Mb...
But remembering that celeron system... just makes me feel all warm inside

Athlon 950 + 3dfx Voodoo 5500 AGP, 512MB PC133. That machine devoured UT99, Quake 3, and pretty much whatever I played at the time. Late 90's baby..

Has to be current: C2D E4300/4GB DDR2/Gigabyte P35 DS3L/Nvidia 7900GT(X)

But I still have a have that nostalgia feeling when I had a a couple of machines with AMD XP T-Breds 1700+ (stock 1.4Ghz)overclocked to 2Ghz +. Hmmm and the Northwood 1.6A overclocking adventures brings back warm feelings

The system I have right now is probably the most high end for the time period. Though with the 4870 X2 out the performance of my system isn't very impressive in comparison.

the one I have now is close to the best. But I think the best I ever had was an Athlon 64 3500+, fairly new with 1gb of ram, an 80 gb hard drive and 15' monitor

I had a really sweet rig back in the day. PII 300 (SL2W8 baby!) running at 450Mhz, Aureal Vortex PCI 3D audio (for Windows), SB64 Awe value ISA audio (for DOS), ATI Rage3D II AGP @ 100Mhz AGP speeds, 100Mhz RAM speeds, and later on, a Voodoo2 12MB (?).
It played Emulators, DOS games, and 3D games really well back in the day. Plus, it had such a manly hum to the multitude of fans I had running. It was a monster of a machine. My only disappointment was that I couldn't get it to run at 504Mhz stable. Oh yeah, Abit BX2-r2, SoftMENU for the win.

I can't decide whether it was my dual Celeron 366@550, 256MB of system RAM, Abit motherboard (can't remember the model # now), 16MB TNT video (for DX games), along with SLI'd 12MB Voodoo 2's.

-or-

My first Athlon, a 600 Mhz Thunderbird @ 700 Mhz, on an Asus K7M, 192MB of PC133, and a 32MB TNT2 @ Ultra, and dual 7,200 RPM hard drives.

-or-

My XP-M 2600 @ 2.5 Ghz, with 1GB of Mushkin BH6, a 9800 Pro, on an Epox 8RDA3+PRO.

-or-

My current favorite, my Q6600 @ 3.2 Ghz, a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R, 4GB of G.Skill PC6400, eVGA 8800GT-SC, with 1TB of HD space, including a WD6400AAKS. I'm seriously considering swapping out the motherboard for an Asus P5Q Pro, like I'm using with my E7200, though.

Either my current, or my original Tbird 1.3 @ 1.5ghz. Had 2 45gb drives in R0 (thought I was cool). Believe the Video card was Geforce 2 Ultra. Had 512 or 1gb memory, don't remember. Was a sweet system.

I bought a Pentium 75 very shortly after they came out.

Everything I've bought since then has been a generation or two behind. Yes, I'm cheap.

My quake 3 Arena "frag-machine" :
PIII @ 1Ghz + 384Mb Ram + Geforce 3 Ti500 + 19" CRT --> straffing Q3A @ 1280x1024 all settings high.
It was in 2001 ... hmm.

This....50% OC, the C300a ran as fast as the P2-450mhz, and cost like 30% of it.

I remember I had a Compaq 12MHz 80286 with a 40MB HD when most AT's were still running 6 or 8MHz and the majority was still buying XTs with dual floppys. Those were the days.
