i said gf 2 and 3 4 are not on because they are not very common and rarely people have them. that doesn't mean that they are not good though. great choice on the x800xl newfie.
They a lot more common than any current generation cards.
Survey
Unfortunately these don't include video card brand, but the general stats are more accurate since they aren't skewed as gamers-only. (Sure, they're still not as accurate as a fully random sample, but people going to a benchmark/test site are going to be a little more random than people going to a gaming site.)
PCPitstop Graphs
Can be quite illuminating for those who only see the high end. Note less than 5% of folks are using higher than 1280x resolution, and over 80% are still using 1024x or below--30% are still using 800x600! I don't know how they even have the screen space for a word processor at that res. I also find it amusing and rediculous that laptops with their smaller screens are running vastly higher resolutions in general than large desktop monitors.
Today's average (50th percentile) system according to PCPitstop visitors:
1800Mhz Intel P4 (AMD has 30-35% there, though, better than the "ZOMG Intel's a monopoly!!111" they're claiming in that lawsuit)
550MB memory
84GB HD space (60GB free)
1024x768 res
Windows XP SP2
It's too bad they don't release video card info, I'd be very curious to see their stats on that. They'd be, if anything, skewed even further toward the low end than the Steam stats.
