Unfortunately these don't include video card brand, but the general stats are more accurate since they aren't skewed as gamers-only. (Sure, they're still not as accurate as a fully random sample, but people going to a benchmark/test site are going to be a little more random than people going to a gaming site.)

PCPitstop Graphs

Can be quite illuminating for those who only see the high end. Note less than 5% of folks are using higher than 1280x resolution, and over 80% are still using 1024x or below--30% are still using 800x600! I don't know how they even have the screen space for a word processor at that res. I also find it amusing and rediculous that laptops with their smaller screens are running vastly higher resolutions in general than large desktop monitors.

Today's average (50th percentile) system according to PCPitstop visitors:
1800Mhz Intel P4 (AMD has 30-35% there, though, better than the "ZOMG Intel's a monopoly!!111" they're claiming in that lawsuit)
550MB memory
84GB HD space (60GB free)
1024x768 res
Windows XP SP2

It's too bad they don't release video card info, I'd be very curious to see their stats on that. They'd be, if anything, skewed even further toward the low end than the Steam stats.

I think im going to hold on to my 6800GT until they start pumping out games like Huxley and Quake 4. Right now I find it pointless to upgrade. Not worth going through money and time ripping the PC apart for one or two games that have been out since last year and can play perfectly well on the 6800GT.

I think the chart answers the questions that nobody is buying the X700 or lower lineup from ATI.

The 6800 is selling twice as much at the 800 lineup.
The 7800 is nearly half of the 800 lineup already.

At least on these boards.

Wow, I wasn't aware MOST people had next gen cards here. The (amount of) 6800GT/Ultras simply crushes the 9x or FX series!

Currently I have a Geforce 4 ti 4200. But considering it's not on the list and I'll have my new system in a couple weeks, I put a 6600gt.

I have a 6800GT at the moment. Might be a 7800 or a R520 before Christmas though, I'm going to get a PCIe video card to support my X2.

I second that there is no geforce 4200 range in the list. Thats one of my secondary cards. So I think your stats are missing quite a few of those.

The list should also go back a little futher. Radeon 8500 is not dead yet either.

This list is only valid for those in the forum taking the test which the majority are going to NVIDIA so this is no shocker. All seem to be looking at 6600-6800 cards just by the postings.
