Right now I'm deciding on a cpu fan. I've narrowed it down to Zalman's 7000 series. Which one would you pick?

1) CNPS7000-Cu
2) CNPS7000B-Cu
3) CNPS7000B-Cu w/ blue LED
4) CNPS7700-AlCu
5) CNPS7700-Cu

It's huge, but it should be able to compete with most watercoolers.

I would go with the 7700-AlCu from that listing. The 7700-Cu is almost 1kg, too much risk for a computer. The AlCu is around 500g, a lot safer. And almost no performance loss.

I have the 7700Cu. You just have to make sure that it will fit on your mobo and case.

I have the 7700AlCu. Big hint: An XP90 + a Panaflo L1A is quieter, and will lots cool better, and it'll have a mugh higher percentage of fitting in your case. Hell I don't even think it costs much more than the 7700AlCu.

Panaflow 120mm fan/XP120
if you can live with the noise and cost.

drool. 114 cubic foot per minute cooling. be careful it dosent pluck your video card and ram from their sockets with that type of suction.

Out of those, I would say teh CNPS7700-AlCu, lighter, cheaper, and almost just as effective as the copper version.

What do you mean it is a lot safer? What kind of risks do I run by having a big heavy HSF? Damage to the CPU???

The fan is replacing my 4200+ stock fan (which by the way is kind of loud) inside an Antec P180 with a A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo. I think it should fit since reviews says that it only takes up the space of an adjacent PCI slot.

Yes I can live with noise and costs. I live in Canada, and the retailers near my house unfortunately only sell Zalman, Coolermaster, and certain Thermaltake HSFs. They do not carry the xp-90 or xp-120 nor do they carry the Panaflo fans.

For now I think I'm gonna go with a 7700AlCu. I don't plan on OCing my Athlon64 4200+ to the max yet.

what isyour case? a full tower, mid tower, minitower, SFF or desktop?

TT Hyper6/2x Vantec Tornado
will provide bettter combo but will be loud.

If the Hyper6(copper edition, not the 6+ aluminum 100mm fan edition) is not aviable, than go 7700cu.

Does anybody know if the CNPS7700-AlCu is compatible with the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D? The Zalman site states that the CNPS7000B-AlCu is compatible with this mobo and claims that the CNPS7700-AlCu is compatible with the LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR, but it does not say whether it's compatible with the Ultra-D or not. I thought the Ultra-D and the SLI-DR are the same mobo with a different chipset, but I wanted to make sure before I bought the 7700. Thanks.

The case I'm using is a Antec P180 which is a midtower. You suggested that I get a Hyper6, but if that is not available, that I get the 7700-Cu
Someone on the forums said that the 7700-Cu is too heavy and is a risk and that I'm better off with the 7700-AlCu. Do you know what kind of risks he is talking about?

I think compatibility is if you can install the fan onto the cpu and if it fits. My guess is that it would be compatible.

I'm pretty sure the 7700s will work on just about any DFI Lanparty nF4 (though it might lock down your RAM slot #4). There's little risk with the Cu if your case doesn't move around, but since mine does, I went with the AlCu just to be safe (more than 300g difference and the cooling is close enough to the Cu that it wasn't a big loss).

Cracking the mobo maybe with all the weight? I've never heard of anyone breaking anything with it though so I think it's safe enough as long as your motherboard is secure. I have the 7000B - Cu and my idle temps are around 31C and I never break 40 when under load. I think the 7700 is a little overdoing it for size/weight. For the $ the 7000B -Cu is your best bet.

7700 Cu and yes it works with DFI allthough last RAM slot is blocked for de/re-install of memory.

Very quiet, keeps CPU very cool. Just be prepared to reinstall HSF everytime u want to move your computer. U do NOT leave it on when transporting.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll go with the 7000 as it is smaller and weighs a little less.
