What is the current status of 3D monitors and glasses?

I have a 144Hz ASUS monitor we should in principle support 3D, with the appropriate glasses and drivers.

I'm interested in making this happen, but doing a bit of research it seems this field has been frozen for several years. Nvidia hasn't made new versions of its 3D Vision glasses, and the original version seems to be out of production. Googling for information only reveals posts about the subject from years ago.

So, what solutions are available now? If I get Nvidia's glasses off eBay, should I expect it to work with Windows 7 and modern Nvidia graphics card? Any other solutions?

I haven't taken the plunge due to several shortcomings, but I would think your best option would be a 3D TV with passive glasses. Resolutions probably isn't a big deal as you can get 4K 3D TVs. LG might be the only panel maker with passive 3D still currently though.

Shortcomings:
No freesync unless you go with a Wasabi Mango or something which means likely dead pixels or more cost and can't really get a 55" anymore I don't think with no dead pixels (Wasabi Mango is a flat screen and for a PC monitor that large I would like a curved screen)
Max 60 Hz at 4K
input lags typically a little higher (rtings.com has a lot of numbers on that)

Don't know if any of that helps you.

Mostly dead tech on the gaming side. There needs to be driver optimization and even sometimes game level work done to make 3d work well, and not be awful. I haven't heard of a game doing that since Left 4 Dead...

No support because no one uses it and the people who do own 144hz displays, would much rather push their game up to 144fps+ and get smoother gameplay than to split the frames per eye for some shoddy 3D effect.

It's currently positioned right where G-Sync and "Virtual Reality" (whatever that is) are headed.
