What is the deal with people needing to ride with someone?

I have been riding bikes forever and I have never understood the popular mentality of "Well I don't like to ride by myself, it's boring". How does riding with someone change up the experience that much?

I like riding with my friends. It is at least as much about the camaraderie and the destination as it is the riding.

I do ride by myself but I don't tend to ride nearly as far by myself as I do when I'm with friends.

What Jules said, and also one of the worst feelings in the world is being on the side of the road alone with no one around if something goes wrong (either through a broke down bike or a wreck).

I like riding on my own but enjoy riding with friends as well. Always nice to have someone watch you ride to get pointers. Once I have free time again in a decade I look forward to grabbing a blanketroll and heading into the mountains alone.

If you don't ride with a friend who's going to watch your back when you get into a fight at the biker bar?

Why do people go on vacation with others and not by themselves? Obviously they enjoy the company.

Many people like to go running or jogging with others as well; you don't have to have a conversation to enjoy someones company or share an experience.

I don't know anything about motorcycles but I think it's pretty self explanatory. A game of strategy and skill where you try to disable you're fearsome opponents 2-wheeled transportation by activating the proverbial 'kill switch'.

Its nice to ride with friends. I ride with friends when I can. If you got a chatterbox you get to talk to each other. In the canyons you get to follow each others lines. If something goes wrong you got a ride back home.

There is an engine kill switch on nearly every modern motorcycle (I can't think of one that doesn't have a kill switch actually) and it is located on the handlebar controls near the throttle. It's a red toggle switch and if you flip it while the engine is running it will kill the engine.

So, you ride up next to your buddy at a stop light and right before the light changes you reach over and flip the engine kill switch. Hilarity ensues.

Obviously, you wouldn't want to do this to someone when they are riding because it could cause the rear wheel to lock up and a crash.

Safety.

Comodorieieree.

I try and choose the most tusk built people to ride with me so I can send them out as probes to protect me in a bar fight.

Yea I know I seen you write it on the 3rd reply but I was honestly too lazy to scroll up and get the correct spelling

Speaking of trips, I might have a crazy trip in the summer of 2010. A bunch of friends from Poland are coming down for a month and going on Route 66. So far there are 9 people and we are looking for more. It's supposed to be hardcore style like back in the day, tents, beer, and arms of steel

Makes me more paranoid....Now I have to worry about what the person next to me (or slightly in front or behind) is going to do about the rock/cat/my excellent compatriot/car etc in the raod coming up.

I enjoy riding by myself.

Unless they have a slipper clutch.

How far west are you going to ride? My friend and I are riding up the coast in a couple months for an overnight trip to Santa Rosa, CA. I wouldn't mind heading out Route 66 on a future road trip. Maybe I'll have my Ducati Monster by then.

So, don't ride next to them. You should ride staggered about 1 second back unless you're riding single file in which case you should leave about 3 seconds between you and the guy in front of you.

This summer I'm not sure where I will be riding and how far. I'm pretty new so I want to take it easy and get comfortable, but most likely towards the end of the summer Ill take a trip somewhere. Next year though we are riding coast to coast + more. It's going to be a mixed bag of guys (some with wives) on all kinds of bikes. Being Polish they are fanatics of movies like "Easy Rider" etc and want to recreate an old school experience of riding, enjoying the sights, and sleeping in tents lol. I am pretty sure they will stop at motels here and there to shower etc.

Should be fun times. I'm not sure where you live but if I'm in the area myself or next year with the gang we can meet up for a couple of riding days.

Going on a group ride tomorrow for the first time. Not sure what to expect really. I kinda like riding alone though.
