Keep people ignorant of facts and you can make any claim. We've seen Republicans use this to spread their propaganda. Without some agency collecting data we wouldn't know statistically having guns in homes is less safe then not having them. The answer from Republicans? Stop collecting the data.

Americans find it's still mind-bogglingly difficult to even have a fact-based discussion on the topic. This is largely because of one incredibly problematic rule: the Dickey Amendment.

After a 1993 study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) found that keeping guns in the home made people less safe and strongly correlated with higher rates of homicide in the home, the National Rifle Association (NRA) pulled out all the stops to squash the NCIPC altogether. While the NRA was unsuccessful in its campaign to fully eliminate the NCIPC, it was able to heavily influence Congress with the help of a boatload of money. According to the American Psychological Association, after much campaigning from the NRA, Congress included a directive in its 1997 appropriations bill banning the CDC from using funds for research "used to advocate or promote gun control." Congress also moved to strip the amount of money the CDC had used to research gun risk the previous year from its budget and dedicate it to the research of traumatic brain injury instead.

Why use a thread about gun violence research to go off on NPR?

Real journalism threatens Team Treason and their propaganda. The GQP holds data and facts anathema to their goal of keeping American dumb and addicted to outrage. NPR is one of those few places that still gives a shit about journalistic integrity.

Spray and pray from a coward with no spine who puts party over country. Same ol lying bullshit from the same ol traitor, nothing to see really.

Scrapping the Dickey Amendment obviously needs to happen, as do all GQP efforts to suppress science and facts needed for the public good. If it enrages traitors like tajbot, you know it's in our best interest.

It certainly should be revoked-there is absolutely no legitimate reason to stifle valid research or intelligent discussion on this subject.
