what is the diff between the Sony DRU510A and the DRU500AX

just saw the Sony DRU510A on sale at Fry's Electronic's for $349 just wondering what the difference is between the 2 drives

I think one records DVD+RW at 4X or maybe it's DVD-RW I just know it's an RW.

DRU510A is actually made by Lite On

Nix that, N/m the U10 is made by LiteOn.

What I don't Understand is the Difference between PC and PowerPC
And Why the 500AX has a Faster Transfer Rate

I am in the Mood to get one of these Drives, and Ideas when Prices will drop and where to shop?

Basically the same drive but supposeduly they upgraded some hardware, the only real change I see is the 4X +RW but the thing is there isn't any 4X DVD+RW media out.

I just got my 510A on monday and haven't had a chance to test it out that much yet, only some 2X DVD-R media I had left over from my old Pioneer DVR-104. I got it for $290 through a hookup, and I find it strange that for such an expensive drive they can't even include a single piece of DVD+RW or DVD-RW with the dive unlike every other manufacturer does with their retail packages.

There are three differences in these drives, but I wonder if the 500AX can be updated with firmware to match the 510A?

1.) {Write DVD+RW} 4X vs. 2.4X

2.) {Read DVD-ROM} 12X vs. 8X

3.) {Write CD-RW} 16X vs. 10X

ok now i'm even more confused!

I saw that newegg has what they are saying is:

"Sony DVD+/-RW Recorder Drive Model DW-U10A-10
Replacement of DRU-500A"

now some sites say thats the OEM version of the 500a... and some say thats the OEM version of the 510a

and still other sites say that the DW-U12A is the OEM version of the 510a.

what I think I want to buy is the DW-U12A... cause I want the 510a because its supposed to be faster.

now there is the question of the lite-on variant or clone, or whatever it is... its one or the other... but which?

now im reading about some AX drive that I didn't know about... its slowly coming together I think.. but any help would be great
