Do you mean dynamic or static routing ?
Static Routing : semi-permanently specifying where traffic matching a pariticular pattern should go
Dynamic Routing: a routing databse, one that is updated and propogated using a routing protocol, creates a routing table. Dynamic routing is much better than static routing as it can change routes depending on various conditions. If links go down, the routing table can find new paths. In most cases, with a static route, traffic iss routed only to one specific destination, if this route fails, traffic gets dropped.
