As usual, the CPU wars might be speeding up the process. AMD and Intel have both been jumping over the dates of their "official" roadmaps this year, sometimes by months. See this article for example.

True enough, but, if you look, that roadmap was updated on 08/29/01! AMD & Intel both will push things as fast as they can I'm sure, but, Barton in Jan. - Feb. '02 isn't likely to happen! Check all the press releases on it.....they're still a long ways off on Barton... If I'm wrong, I'll gladly admitt it, hell, I'd love to see it, but, this is just to much of a stretch!

Athlon's still have, and will continue to have, the best price/perfomance ratio, even if you factor in the cost of a new motherboard, an Athlon will cost half as much as a Pentium
