Around 72 hours during the mandatory military service we have in my country.
75% of the time we had to march or stand guard and stuff. I almost slept 24 hours
after that, almost took me a week to find my normal rythm again.
To this day I can't remember half of what we did during those days.

Well, from Sunday Morning to Thursday night, that would be about 4 1/2 days. The Army sucks like that sometimes.

74 hrs at GenCon in `91... there's nothing like playing D&D while sleep deprived, RPGs become VERY realistic. After 60 hrs (2.5 days) the hallucinations were exquisite, especially considering the only thing I was drinking was Jolt and coffee. By the end I was laughing at everything, and the only words I could say were profanity (though I really wasn't mad, the words just sounded funny). The last thing I remember was standing in a hallway... peeing into a trash can... in front of about a dozen people.

Then I slept all the way home (some buddies were driving), all that night, and most of the next day. I wokeup with a staggering headache, a bad case of the runs, and I was severely dehydrated. What's funny is I remember most of that trip as if I were watching someone else. Strange perspective.

I really can't say that I recommend it... but you should try it at least once in your life.

36 hours. Several times. Was training at FTX (field training exercise) for the army. Field artillery battery support and division support. Constant moving about to and fro.

Cute story: we were told that 36 hours was the max 'cuz we'd all be useless after that from not having slept. So, we trained for 36 hours. After I got out of the system, I found out that our expected lifetime on the Eurpoean battle front was estimated to be --- 36 hours. After that, we'd have been found & blasted by the soviets. A few years back I met a guy who was in the Czech army at the same time I was. They trained for 20 minutes at a time -- drop packs and run like hell. We thought that the average life expectancy of infantry troops in the open would be --- 20 minutes. (All this assumes that we'd be using tactical nukes. Very neat.)

And who says the military has no sense of humor?

I stayed up for 48 hours, it really didn't bother me THAT much at the time. We were driving to Canada and my dad didn't want to get a hotel, said we could sleep in the truck. Needless to say I've never been able to sleep in cars or trucks before so I didn't.

I did know a lady once who would stay up for weeks at a time. She said after about 100 hours she would experience hallucinations up until about her 200th hour at which time she no longer required sleep at all (according to her). She actually said it became extremely difficult to go to sleep somewhere down the line but she'd stayed up at least 2 months at one time she said. Her theory was sleep was a waste of time. My personal theory is, how can I get more of it?

Pssh, obviously, none of you are archy's here. When the deadlines come... you start crunching. Last year, first year, second semester, I stayed awake for a week working on my models and presentation drawings. I smelled like ass afterwards, didn't shower, barely ate... never really stepped out of studio except to get supplies.

And that's in addition to the rest of the time, when 5 hours a night is a lot... I used to be big in sports back in high school, but I'm lucky if I get to step into the gym with any energy left these days...

Once you are awake for 5 days straight you are legally insane.

I've never really tried- nor do I want to- so 24 hours is my most.

I went 2 days. I don't dare go any longer or I'll serious suffer consequences of depriving myself of sleep.

I stayed up once for 3+ days finishing up a final project for one of my classes (Hidden Markov Modelling for speech recognition, if anyone's interested). It was pretty fun, 'cause there were 7-8 of us at the lab trying to finish up. Anyways, about 45 minutes before my scheduled time to show the prof my program, I stopped by the library to relax for a bit. BIIIGGGGG mistake... it's so damn quiet and the chairs were soooo comfy that I put my head down... and next thing I know, it's about 2 hours past my appointment. ARGH!!!!!

Anyways, ran to the prof and told him what happened. I think he took one look at my scruffy appearance, felt pity and took my word for what happened.

Ive done 4 days before.
Thursday - Monday morning.
Rough weekend of partying in canada.

This is no joke. I work Engineering at a Electric Cooperative. Friday, December 29, 2000 a massive ice storm downs powerlines on our whole system. Out of 4,000 miles of lines, we only have 3 circuits online. The damage is catostrophic. I get called in to work at 2 A.M. on December 29th. At 4:30 on Jan 3rd I get to go home and sleep and bath. I am not joking 110 hours on duty at work with approx. 4 hours of naps! I took off work on Jan 4th to sleep. Here's where it gets even more unbelieveable. On Saturday, January 6 at about 5 p.m., my wife goes into labor. We go to the hospital and are in labor until 5 a.m. January 8th when our first child (a girl!) was born. I finally got to go to sleep then at about 9 p.m. that night bringing my sleepless hour count to about 52 hours.

So from Dec 29th to January 8th of this year, I went without sleep once for 110 hours and again another time for 52 hours. Needless to say I am still recovering from the ordeal. I actually lost about 15 pounds total in that time frame.

But 110 hours of double time pay was great!

72 hours - and what did I do/eat for those 72 hours:

Dug fox holes
Had guard duty
Dug huge trenches
Carried an M-16 Rifle everywhere
Wore that heavy kevlar Army issued helmet
high temp's in the day: 100-110 F
Eat: MRE's only...3/day
Oh yea..then marched 15 miles back to the barracks and cleaned weapons all night

I don't remember how long I slept, but I remember some guy in my platoon had a heat stroke

I did 4 days for a video assignment. by the end I didn't even remember what I was talking about when I saw the footage and but I remember everyone was screwing with me. I was so angry by the end, its weird like you get paranoid thoughts but they don't seem paranoid at the time. ugh its hard to explain
