Well, I got it running fine at 2.64GHz, but something quirky, my memory, in Windows, at least, comes up as only 188MHz. It says in BIOS that it is 195MHz, but in Windows, with any sysinfo utility, it says 188MHz. Everything is running fine, and I am perfectly happy, but it worries me that the memory is that low.

On a positive note, when I removed my CPU to get its info, and re-applied the AS5 goop, it seems to have lowered my temps. Now, the thing idles at 36c, and under load, I have yet to make it go over 50c! I guess I didn't apply enough the first time around or something, but no matter what I do, it refuses to go over 50c. Hey, I'm not complaining .

A64s use some weird way of calculating the ram speed. I don't know how it works, but I do know that the speed will never be over what you set in the bios, but it could be a bit under it. If you look at the FSBRAM section of the second sc, it says CPU/14. That means your ram speed is cpu speed divided by 14, which comes out to be 188.

Don't worry though, that won't really hurt your performance at all.

I've run mine at 1100 without a problem... basically just keep going until it becomes unstable... back HTT down and see if that makes it stable. You may as well just start with 4X or even 3X though since there's almost no difference in performance even from 600 to 1000.

correction....there is no difference between 800 and 600 in 99.99% of anything

I wouldn't worry about the HTT speed so long as you are over 600mhz. There is almost no performance difference between 600mhz and 1000mhz at this time since the extra bandwith isn't used by current single core A64's. Certainly no performance difference in real world usage. It might make a bigger difference using dual processor or dual core systems though but I haven't seen any tests to indicate yes or no on this.

Future systems will of course make bigger use of the HTT bus as they move to using more PCI-E devices as opposed to PCI. AFAIK the only things that use the HTT bus on an A64 system are the CPU's, PCI-E video card and on some systems ethernet. Later on we'll have PCI-E raid cards, sound cards, etc.
