Definitely quake/quakeworld. Played that game for like 5 years, and to this day remains my favorite multiplayer shooter of all time.

It's too bad id abandoned their multiplayer roots...they were the first with MP modem play (doom), first with internet MP (quake), yet the studio that were the forefathers of multiplayer FPS games don't even bother with MP anymore. I miss the old id software.

I play quake live regularly almost everyday. I suck at it but sometimes manage to win some games.

I have almost 1200 hours in TF2.
Next closest is probably LoL somewhere in the 600 hours mark. Just a guess though.

I've clocked about 2400 hours in CS:S, not bad for a game I got for free with HL2.

Just as a comment on the game industry, it's actually a little unhealthy to have some games - mostly MMO's but also CS here - that take up such huge time, displacing other games. That prevents the development and sale of other games if people had more gaming time for them.

Other industries don't seem to have the same problem. TV, moview, music have some that get more replayed than others, but none threaten to displace others the way like games.

There's no movie - not even Star Wars - that gets played 2400 hours much preventing the person from buying other movies.

It's ''healthier' for the industry to have games have a more moderate length of play.

I think a lot of people slash their game buying drastically when they find a game that takes up that kind of time. Not sure there's much that can be done about it, though.

The closest thinng is turning those 2400 into a recurring expense - whether a subscription or expansions or in-game currency - but that sill only funds the one game.

When I finally quit playing FFXI I had 5 years real time invested in it. That's not 5 years total I played it, I mean I literally had 5 years on the game play time counter. That's 43,800 hours roughly

For a one time play through, the most time I have put in would likely be several hundred hours with the Badur's Gate series (all of them). I also have a few hundred hours into each of the Elder Scrolls Games from Morrowind to present. The game I have played the most and still love: Freespace 2.

How much of that was bazaar or AFK time though?

I don't know about AFK but bazaar was zero, I used separate accounts for that.

I played the game since it was in Japan as my friend lived there and got me hooked on it. I swapped servers when the NA version released and kept my account active for about 7 years time. I gave it to a friend who lost his account when they had server issues or something and he lost his stuff and couldn't get it returned. After that time sink and waste of money for multiple accounts etc, I vowed never to play MMOs ever again lol.

UT2004, by a huge margin.
I still play it sometimes.

I have almost any much time spent in Civ5, so i guess that qualifies as well, but it's also a game where you have to play for hours and hours to get anywhere.
