Civ IV (by a wide margin), X-Com, MoO 1/2, MoM. Something about those strategy games never gets old.

Starcraft.... played from 1998 to around 2009 when it became too difficult to find a good UMS game because of fooking latency issues and the weird color bug started to annoy me as well.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3. The random map generator never gets old and with WOG mods it's great. Pretty much the only game I play now on PC. Just reactivated FFXIV to play with the nephews but it may not last for me. HOMM3 will last a long time still

That comes out to 1.67 hours a day, every day since release.

Playing games like that is like going hunting for me. Its that constant thrill of spotting a target and timing the shot just right. It gives me an endorphin rush that never gets old (well it does sometimes, but rarely). It satisfies my human need to dominate and control (except when I get owned). Its a great outlet, but the time sure does sneak up on you.

Diablo 2 was basically the only thing I did in middle school. Played Wolfenstein ET on and off for a decade.

Toss up between wow and quake 2. I still occasionally tinker with making instagib maps for q2 and play once in a while

Just as a comment on the game industry, it's actually a little unhealthy to have some games - mostly MMO's but also CS here - that take up such huge time, displacing other games. That prevents the development and sale of other games if people had more gaming time for them.

Well, it didn't prevent the sale of the other 76 games in my Steam library. Nor did it prevent the other 360 / PS3 games I own. CS just happens to be my favorite game. No other game can come close in my opinion, doesn't mean I don't play other games.

I dont want 1000 shitty games

i want one good game that takes up that much time

the industry is already too good at shoveling too many shitty games out, some downsizing could be good

I've been wanting to play that lately, it looks richly detailed and beautiful in the Odyssey video. Does all of it look that good? How much does it cost per month?

Its a blast. yeah it looks good graphic wise.

Its cheap. for like 11-12 bucks a month its definitely worth it.

What makes the game is really the interaction with other players and being in a player based corp. Its not really a PvE game although some people do play it that way.

Yeah. Putting vast amounts of time into, ahem, Spider Solitaire, didn't prevent me accumulating a large library of Steam games. Obviously I don't actually play any of them, and never have and likely never will, ever, but everyone knows that's not the point of buying games in Steam sales, right?
You buy them because they are new and shiny and cheap and might not stay cheap, so quick, buy them now!!

Also, nobody complains that the huge popularity of football is unhealthy for creating new sports, like, er, elbowpuck!

Diablo 2/LoD started in middle school and played almost through high school.

WoW I started playing this in like 2005-2006 and still occasionally play so it's an an ongoing thing.

Shogun 2 and Fall of the samurai = 1450 hours
Best $49.99 I've ever spent.

I got that for $30 on a big sale on DVD, and later re-bought on Steam and all the DLC, and still haven't played yet. Held up with a full drive, 3TB sitting here waiting to get installed.

Diablo, and Diablo II, by far, though Starcraft and modded FO3 deserve honorable mentions.
