If I were looking to buy the most reliable car, what car(s) should I be looking at.
My greatest concern is build quality and least amount of money shelled out for repairs, etc.
This of course assumes I take care of the car with regular maintenance...

Budget -- no more than about 25K new.

BTW, looking for a 4-door sedan with Autotransmission.

What are your recommendations?

Also, I was considering the possibility of getting a 1-2 year old used car since
new cars depreciate like crazy. With regards to Accord/Maxima, have there been any
recent model year changes in the last 2-3 years?

if your looking for a used car, a maxima may be cheaper. They depreciate like crazy after you take them off the lot. hehe. But they're pretty relaible, and I think they're the best bang for your buck if you can get it cheap.

Man, hopefully mine! (Volkswagen Jetta 99.5) but you can't go wrong with a Honda or Toyota.

Toyota.

I've owned several of them. Very reliable. Have also owned three Nissans/Datsun with excellent results.

Have heard good things regarding Honda although I haven't owned one.

Honda Civic/Accord have great track records. We have a 92 Civic and it just won't die. No matter how bad my wife treats it, it never gives us any trouble....

I have an '89 accord, 140k miles and it has no major squeaks or rattles, nothing leaks. Good car, hoping to get another 100k miles out of it.

Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. It's really a matter of personal preference and how much the car costs.

I would ask other family members, friends and co-workers their experiences with Toyota's and Honda's.

Your best bang for the buck would be a 2 year old Toyota. Not the sexiest thing in the world but very reliable. Both my parents and sister have been going that route for several years.

Sister - 96 Camry
Parents - 98 Camry and 2000 Corolla
Me - 2000 Nissan Truck

I'm the Black Sheep in the family

Camry, Accord, and Maxima, in that order for reliability. The Maxima was new for 2000, the Accord for '98, and the Camry for '97. If you want a 4-cyl, get an Accord. If you must have a V6, get a Maxima. If you value comfort above all else, get a Camry.

Toyota Corolla is probobly the most reliable car in the world. Change the oil every 3k miles and it will run forever.

A Beamer or a Lexus. You can no doubt find Lexus in the top 3 spot every year.

I heard that either toyota/honda's have issues with the timing chains
in the engines...

How common a problem is this? Was this a particular problem with a certain
car or engine?
