Didn't read the linked article, I would imagine barbecue dishes for the US, curry dishes for India, pho for Vietnam, sushi for Japan, pasta dishes for Italy, some kind of stir-fry dishes for China, taco/burrito for Mexico.

Some interesting things in there.

I actually agree with the US Hamburger.

Our Pizza's usually do look similar to the Italy one, the wife is a lot Roman Italian and we've always made them at home similar, just usually add more than that pic.

I like the looks of the Portuguese one, had a Gunny when I was in the Marines whose girlfriend was Portuguese and she made all kinds of interesting things.

Greek and the Thai too, glad have a couple good places make those also very well near me.

That egg biscuit from Georgia looks pretty tasty.

Costa Rica's Tamales is what we call Pastelles in Trinidad and Tobago.

For Trinidad and Tobago, I'll have to say it is Doubles (we don't have a national dish).

Edit: According to Wikipedia
Trinidad and Tobago cuisine is indicative of the blends of Indian, African, Creole, Amerindian, European, Chinese and Lebanese gastronomic influences.[1][2] Trinidad and Tobago has one of the most diverse cuisines in the Caribbean and is known throughout the world. There are more than one national dishes, in fact, there are so many that T&T may have more national dishes than any other country, national dhishes include Callaloo, Bake & Shark, Doubles, Pelau, Curried crab & dumplings, Oil Down, Pastelles, Black Cake, DHal Puri Roti, Buss-up-shot Roti (Paratha), Murtanie (a.k.a. Mother-in-law) and Souse.

Most countries I've been to have been listed all ready even on the post, but I remember a Filipino women back then too used to make Lumpia and bring to parties a lot. There are other things there I amigne, but I loved that stuff and seemed to be her go to thing.

I guess is Chinese in origin, but the others were great too.

I guess Lechon is their national one, but would be like roast pig in Hawaii I guess for a local thing.

For the US, I'd pick BBQ or Chili. There are lots of American foods. You're right about everyone stealing from everyone else but, each region puts their own unique mark on the food making it American.

General rule: if it's bland, fried, or giant, it's American.

The Greece gyro is my staple here in the U.S!

I thought pizza originated in China? Was a meal made from scraps made by the poor.

As the resident South African, I suppose I agree with biltong being our most stereotypical food. Other choices would have been braaivleis (meat barbecued on a charcoal grill), potjiekos (stew cooked slowly over a fire in a three legged cast iron pot) or milk tart (light custard tart).

"Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Tony, you have to go to the hospital. The doctor has to look at you.

Tony Stark: I don't have to do anything. I've been in captivity for three months. There are two things I want to do. One, I want an American cheeseburger, and the other...

Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: That's enough of that.

Tony Stark: It's not what you think. I want you to call for a press conference.

Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Call for a press conference? What on earth for?

Tony Stark: Hogan, drive. Cheeseburger first."

Around here, regional dishes vary so much, that national dishes are of little relevance.
Personally, I dig Alsatian Flammekueche.

USA should be either a steak and baked potato or a roast turkey with the trimmings. I say turkey because it is the traditional meal served at thanksgiving. Of course, in Boston that might be roast duck.

I guess for Korea they could pick anything. Korea is the king of fermentation, Kim-chi noodles etc. The food is so varied in Korea, how do you choose? sweet red bean dumplings are nice it is a kind of a vender food often sold on the streets in Korea. I love so many Korean dishes from fresh fish to dried squid, to Kim-chi, to rice, to glass noodles, to Buckwheat noodles served cold with pickled Moo. Then there are all of the many side dishes and the soups made with hot bean paste. Traditionally one basic food, fresh tofu was given to people in prison upon their release.
