I don't think I've spent more than $2k on myself outside of a car, and likely it was a laptop that got the top dollar. Spent $1700 on a TV once but I wouldn't be surprised if I bought a more expensive laptop at some point... something in that range.

You have to really convince my why I need to spend more on something, I live fairly modestly compared to income mostly because I don't see the value in a lot of things.

I'm not really sure that my car or home qualifies as these are things I purchased together with my wife.

Probably my latest purchase, which was a nice watch.

A mountain condo? If I hat doesn't count because of the house/car clause, then my Yeti mountain bike is probably my the nicest thing I have bought myself.

Downside is the new drone rules here basically make it illegal everywhere...

[...]

I'm hoping as long as I'm being careful and use common sense cops will leave me alone though. They probably have better things to do than shutting down someone operating a drone who is not bothering anyone.

This is how I know you live in Canada.

A pair of these Ekornes chairs, in this color, I guess:

Back in the day, it would be either my gorgeous Fiat Spyder:

Or when I spent nearly $6000 total on a box which I stuffed with all of the top of the line components I could, including ~$350 or so for a then unheard of multi-box/recording phone system on a riser card, ~$1,200 (may have been more, I forget) for a then ultra premium Microtek scanner, $1,200 or so for a HP Laser Jet printer (built like a tank!), to which I added yet another riser card for ~$1,000 that gave it then rare Postscript printing capabilities.

I had . . . ambitions.

A car is the only thing beyond basic survival that I have spent any real money on, and even that only recently (first new car 2014, under $15k total). Before I always got super cheap used cars and keep them for decades, but the government did that crush all used cars thing and destroyed the market. I've never really spent much on my PCs, usually getting parts as gifts or hand downs. Probably less than $10/month on average.

Which means that beside my car, the most expensive thing I've splurged on is food. Sometimes I just can't resist eating real food, and I'll actually buy stuff at the store...or every few months even go to a restaurant with a friend/family and spend up to $15. I know it averages more than $10/month, this month I already spent $20 on food.

Bulk TP of course, since it was on sale.

Bought these nice Yamaha RX-V579 and RX-V679 (2015 models, $35 and $45 respectively) 7.2-channel home theater receivers at a flea market last Sunday.
Both work so nice, I still have to figure out all the features.

If I had to do it all over again, I think the 4.5 or 5.5 would have been what I rode home on.

Yeah. 4.5 is closer to my SB95, but I push the SB95 a bit on quite a few rides I do. SB5.5 should cover my whole use case with a touch less climbing prowess. The plus bikes are tempting, but I don't think it can be my only bike. Took a Hightower out for a demo and just didn't like it. Might have to give the Pivot Switchblade a try to see if I like it.

Hope the TP was 2 ply!

Damn, awesome deal on those Recievers.
I picked up a Yamaha RX-V679BL a while back when my previous reciever (a more expensive, 5ish year old Onkyo) had died. Been really happy with it as well as with my older 90 and early 00s era Yamaha stuffs. (Still have a pre-hdmi era yamaha connected to TV & blueray player in the living room just for audio with optical cable)

Climbing will be less of an issue, thanks to the switch infinity system. If you get a chance to demo the 5.5, you'll see what I mean.
