I'm new to overclocking but I just got an 800 thunderbird. I've picked up bits and pieces and I know you need to do something to the golden bridges. I've seen cards for sale that seem to ride piggyback on the chip and seem to make it overclock. I'm running this 800 thunderbird on an asus A7 with a chrome orb. I have no other case cooling but I'm thinking of buying the cardcooler extreme. Seemed to cool the whole case pretty well. Since I'm new, I'd prfer to do some moderate overclocking that doesn't involve soldering and really doesn't push the processor to hot. I'm not comfortable with that just yet.

in order to bridge it you would need a special pen but ppl have been using the lead from a pencil to bridge it instead, i believe you need a high lead pencil, not the graphite ones. available from art stores, etc

I am not an expert on "AMD" products but I believe their new chips can't be overclocked using the multiplier due to the removal of the pins. Therefore using the lead of a pencil to make the connection won't work. I would send a link if I could remember were it was I read it.

Subsailor, that is what AMD plans on doing but the chips you are refering to haven't hit the market heavy yet so most of the chips that you find can still be overclocked by connecting the cut bridges.

I got my tbird800 to 935mhz using the pencil trick (normal cheap pencil will work). here are my settings

ASUS A7V with both of the dip switch
micron CAS2 ram under clock to CAS3 in bios
I bridged both L1 and L7 on the chip
set mb to jumperless mode.
fsb is 110 in bios
8.5 clock on the dip switches
3.69v on io
1.75v core in bios but the mb always add another .05v to it so it is actually running at 1.8v.
1.002 bios, I tried 1.003 but it gives me stop error under win2000, gonna try 1.004 today.

forget to mention I am also using InWin S500 case with arctic silver compound and FOB32+ fan. this keep my cpu temp to 40c under full load. It used to be 47c using cheap compound and vantech fan.

On the chip, there is an L1 section. You can connect the broken links(the earlier chips weren't broken) with a pencil, and if you have a bios that can change the multiplier, you can now freely change the multiplier. If you don't have the change ability in bios or motherboard jumpers, you can make different combos. I don't know the sight name offhand and don't care to look for it unless you reply.

if you're new to OC'ing then i don't know if a Tbird 800 is the best chip to start out on. just be careful, especially if the corb installs anything like the gorb just personally i'd suggest being really comfortable with it before you go playing with a $200 chip
