What is the simplest car in production right now? Like what is today's Volkswagen Beetle? I imagine it would be some front engine/rear-drive vehicle, but which one?

lol i like the eewwwww-go

Really though none stand out as being more simple than another. look for the roomiest engine bay if you anticipate alot of problems. With my factory service manual *buy a set for $100* its nto too hard.

Toyota Echo I saw a lady buying one when i was getting my truck.

They seem pretty simple and the cost was under 10k if I remember correctly.

Basically why I'm asking is I want to heavily customize my next car much like how I have done up my computer. However I know very little when it comes to working under the hood. I can/have done: changed battery, changed alternator, adjusted clutch pedal height (previous owner had it practically to the steering wheel) and changed the oil. I want to be able to completly disassemble the engine however & do some serious modding to it, but don't want to jump in over my head. Anyone have some tips for this? I currently own a 1989 Pontiac Lemans & I thought it would be fun to like add a turbo or something like that to it (maybe put it up to 100hp!!!, lol).

Just use common sense in dumping money into older cars. If its a classic sure. If it's not watch out. Before you know it you can be sinking a bunch of cash into something that my not be reliable.

If you're gonig to be modding the car, don't get a toyota echo because it's simple, get an old mucle car from the 60s. They're simple to work on, and you'll have a lot more fun with one of them then a pontiac lemans.

What that guy said Dumping money into a car is like dumping into the toilet. It kind of feels good but you'll not be seeing it again.

Hmm, well anyway don't go throwing money into an 89 lemans!

An echo or daewoo or kia or hyundai would be the simplest cars. If you're hard up for cash an echo would probably be one of the better ones for anybody wanting to buy a super-cheap econobox. Of course don't go on the highway in them cause they be nasty once you get some speed going!

If you want simple, get a V8 powered American car. You can pick up '98 Z28s for as cheap as 14 grand. Always start with a car that has real balls to begin with. A 300 hp stock camaro will get you started off faster than modding some crap waggon honda rice POS.

The 2.0L VW's are pretty simple to work on, and have a lot of room under the hood to mess around.

The Geo Metro is pretty damn simple. My friend has one and sometimes I just get the urge to pick it up and wind it up like you did when you were a kid with your toy cars, you know, roll it forward then pick it up, forward, pick it up and then let it go. At least it looks like you could do that anyway. Guess my imagination is a bit too active at times eh.

New car production? I would say Saturns I've worked under the hood of an SL2 and that was cake.

But in all honesty my truck is childsplay even, prolly cause the LS1 is just plain and simple smart engineering. You can get off and under the coil packs in no time. Even with my Supercharger in the way now Spark plugs take 15 minutes is all for all 8. Exhaust was a blindfold and a 15mm ratchet and some extensions was all.

My dodge 2500 is cavernous under the hood, even witht he superchargers mounted in there. I could fit a V-8 in the extra room between the fenderwell and my V-10.

Ever try changing the plugs in a FWD caddy with the northstar engine? Forget it. The dealer actually charges to pull the engine to change the plugs. There is only like 1/4" clearance That is the only FWD car that I have ever driven that does nice burnouts in stock form

Find an Eagle talon/plymouth laer/mitsubishi eclipse (same car) From 1990-1992

get the All wheell Drive Turbo and you will have a TON of fun.

I bought a 1990 Eagle Talon AWD TSI for $700 with a blown engine.

popped in a new engine ( you can get used Japaneese motors for this car for $1000 that only has 40000 miles on them)

Put on Brand new tires and rims for $700

get a big exhaust ($500 ) and turn up the boost on the turbo.

That is $3000 for a car that will beat pretty much anything out there. The take off in an AWD is AMAZING

I ran mine at the track today. Mid 14's on a quatermile.

you cannot beat that for $3000

All the honda boys were left in the 16's unlees they had $5000 mods and slicks.

LOL

IMHO Turbo's are NEVER an easy install, but thats cause I hate exhaust work with a passion, I'll stick with a 5 hour SC BOLT-ON
