What is the SPDIF accessory for ?

I just installed the Asus P4PE. It came with onboard audio which works fine. It also came with an adpater for a SPDIF which I plugged into the motheboard. It has two connections on it, one looks like an RCA imput and the other is a small square input.
I tired to plug my audio RCA jack from my speakers into it, but it wont fit.

I currently have an older model of the Klipsch, 4 speaker and sub. The Klipsch needs two output jacks on the computer, one for front and one for rear.

SO, my question is, should I be using the SPFDIF accessory and if so, how do I connect it to my speakers and why would I use it ?

SPDIF is for digital signal passthrough. Stands for Sony/Phillips Digital Interface. The RCA out is for digital coax out and the square output is for optical cable (Toslink) out. This allows you to hook up your sound to a standalone A/V receiver or speakers that accept the inputs so that it does the Dolby Digital decoding.

If you are going to be using the Klipsch speakers, then don't worry about the SPDIF connectors (the digital coax and optical connector will not be used) on the daughter board. Just run your front and rear speakers out through the mini-jacks. The SPDIF connectors would be used if you were going to hook it up to a receiver or if you had a speaker set that had the connector, like Creative has.
