Right.... and your from?

my from?

i'm from america, and i travel often enough out of the country to know how inexpensive clothing and accessories can be outside the US. but it's okay because americans are rich and have money to blow.

Better question actually: WHY spend that much on a watch?

watch = male jewelry. it's one of the only acceptable forms of male jewelry (the other being cuff links)

watch = says as much about you as your tie

My watch is a cheap $25 Timex Expedition, and I wear no tie. But that's by choice, for the following reasons:

1) I and my co-workers are allowed to wear shorts and T-shirts to the office, and I make a great salary doing something I enjoy doing.
2) I'm highly skilled, so I can be successful without having to look like a corporate clone to try to impress my bosses.
3) I'm married, so I don't need to impress other women. I like how I look, and my wife likes how I look, and that's all that matters to me.
4) I'd rather take all that money I could be spending on watches and ties and "fashion" crap and spend it on what matters: my wife and kids.

For the record, I'm wearing a free company polo shirt, a pair of cargo shorts, and boxer briefs. Total cost, brand new: about $20. I'm 'bout to jump in my '99 Altima with 3 hubcaps, as I leave my stay-at-home wife and 2 kids in our 3300 sq. ft. house in a great school district. Those 3 people are the only ones I care to impress with "stuff".

Shirt- 25$
Undershirt - 5$
Jeans - 20$
Briefs - 4$
Socks - 2$
Shoes - 50$
Phone - 35$ (bought used)
Wallet - 10$
Keychain - free

I wear no watch, no jewelry and I dress cheap, only glasses were excluded from this.

What you wear doesn't mean a thing in terms of salary or social status considering I make more at 27 than the average household income in this city.

In terms of resale value, maybe $5 if I'm lucky. No cash, a mini-buck knife in my pocket is about it. The pants, socks, shoes, underwear and T-shirt are nearly worthless. My keys would cost me to replace but they are worthless to anyone else. I don't even normally carry a wallet, since I don't need cash often. I just have a credit card and drivers license in a pocket. Worthless plastic.

it means nothing more or less, depending on the circumstances.

when you DO wear a watch or a tie, it DOES say something.

Everything on me:
Glasses : 50
Shirt : 35
Pants : 25
Belt : 25
Watch : 100
Shoes : 16
Wallet : 20
Jotter & Memo Pad : 25
Pen : 120
cell phone : got it for free, but I think it 'retails' for 300, 80 for new customers, i'm not counting it though
Keys : Maybe 30 bucks? For the cost of a swisstek knife thing and a 2gb sandisk flash drive
$446 total thanks to my watch and pen.

Everything I brought to work:
total for my timbuk2 bag and the crap in it (including zune, shure e2c, and pa2v2, random stuff) : 635 bucks.

All told that stuff was about $1081. If I had brought my laptop and mouse (which I do sometimes) it'd be another 600ish. I didn't realize it was that much.
