Playing street hockey and having the ball slapshotted straight into my testicles. I still have nightmares.

Same thing here, though I haven't had it fixed yet. I guess I'm just getting used to it, though the X-Rays looks pretty nasty.

The worst pain, though, had to be the "moment of passing" after being extremely constipated for a long period of time...imagine a spiked brick, on fire, coming out sideways.

my appendix burst. I was writhing on the floor in pain at the ER. Had to wait 2 hours, they finally saw me. To make matters worse, they had to do a colon scan to make sure it was a burst appendix before they would give me any painkillers. morphine didn't help. Dilaudid (potency of morphine x 10) saved the day.

Its not always the big things that hurt like hell. The little things pack a big punch, too.

I have never broken anything, but I have experienced many painfull things:

1. having a molar drilled with no freezing. the nerve just wouldn't freeze. this pain is nearly indescribeable. Ever seen the movie The Marathon Man? "Is it safe? Is it safe?". OMFG.

2. Ear infection. this is a seriously painfull ordeal, and I used to get them 3 times a year.

3. Pimple in the inner ear. nasty and painfull. when it pops it nearly deafens you.

4. caught my finger in the car door. OMFG!!!!! anyone that experiences this should get a medal or something. My finger didn't stop throbbing for nearly 5 hours and that was after taking some potent pain killers. The pain is caused mostly by the blood caught under the fingernail. The cure (which is almost as bad as the cause) is a sterilized needle rammed through the nail to release the blood pressure. I let nature take its course. Then my nail fell off after a week and it was cool. It grew back and everything is normal.

5. I had a serious case of diarrhea that lasted about 5 hours straight. It was so sore that it eventually went numb. I swear I couldn't sit down for 2 days and sleeping wasn't fun either.

When I fell about 20-25 ft. at a Construction site once.
I was about 40 ft. up, stepped in some grease, and down I went instantly.
The only thing that saved me from hitting the concrete below were 2 "Unistrut" braces holding a light.
Landed on my right side, mid-section. Totally destroyed 5 ribs.
I do remember being in intense pain for several months, but the soreness lasted over a year!
(It is still sore, down deep, after 19 years!)

two weeks out without meds immediately following hernia surgery...

i didn't get my script filled because it was the week of finals, and i thought drugs would throw me out of sync. Well, the drugs didn't- but the pain sure did. I would get up off my bed by rolling my body an inch at a time sideways, then easing a leg down. Process took 10 minutes. They day of my exam, I arrived late because it took me 30 minutes to get out of the fvckin car.

Needless to say, I said fvck it, loaded up in vicodin, and took the exams in the spring.

the first time was my fault. my head was on the wrong side for an open field tackle. i've got video of it showing the arm getting pulled all the way back. it didn't hurt, it was just a strange new feeling that told me something was wrong. but i got it put back in on the sideline.

the second time was about ten minutes later. we were on offense on the goal line and something weird happend. i don't remember what, but i knew that my arm was out.

the third time was definately the worst. second play of the game. some duche from gary andrean purposely went for my shoulder. i had gotten around him and went to pursue the ball. next thing i know is my arm is being lifted up and he basically tackles me and lands on my shoulder. i had a shoulder brace on but that didn't help. he dented the ball of my shoulder and i had to get major surgery a month later because of it.

the worst pain was when they put the thing back in. the doctors put a sheet around my chest, had two people pull the chest, and had one pull my arm. i just remember the first pull due to the drugs, it was like being burned from the inside out.

lets hear yours

11 years old, I was in a high speed go kart accident. I was coming down a hill in to a T intersection, where a younger kid who had been taunting us as we( my friend and I) raced around the neighborhood jumped out in front of me with a arm full of tennis balls. He was trying to pelt us with them as we passed by. The young kid and I were on a colision course and I slamed on the brakes to only have them fail as I went down the steep hill. I then reacted by putting my shoes down on the pavement as I was going 45+ MPH and swerved to miss him. I ended up cuting accross the intersection and hit the raised 10 inch curb that was strieght ahead. Upon impact my appendages slapped the cart like a rag doll then body was lifted up out of my seat and fliped over where I flew thenlanded head first in to a fully matured rose bush in someones front lawn.

I was wearing some of those old style nike thick foam sole track shoes. When I later examined them I noticed that there was very little foam left on the bottom, I had really been going that fast. I estamate that I was going 35 MPH at the time of the impact. The scars healed well but the bodily pain I felt lasted for a couple of years.

Moral of this story: If your friend fixes your brakes; make him go out for the test drive. Don't be his crash test dummy. And never loose a paper rock scisors match.

I ordered the new prime rib sandwich from quizznos after seeing the commercial. After I ate it, I was food poisoned to the max. I was sitting in the bathroom for hours with excruciating pain. Time that was supposed to be used to study for an exam turned into battle in the bathroom. I will never eat at any quizznos chain again.

Oh and I remember a long time ago, I was ice-skating fast and I fell. After a minute or two a lady runs over my pinky. Good thing I didn't lose it. Her response was sorry and just skated away.

Let's see.

Broke my ankle playing football

Broke my wrist playing baseball (sliding into home and some douche catcher stomped my wrist with a cleat). Well the doctor didn't set it right when he put it in the cast. I only found this out after going to another doctor and he noticed a curve around my wrist area. He said if they had not caught it with another week or two, it could have been done some long term damage. They had to reset my writs. Yes - that does involve them holding you down and re-break your wrist! That sucked.

I also complete tore my Achilles tendon playing basketball about 3 years ago. That was probably the worst pain. It hurt so bad that I didn't actually feel much pain at first. Then about 5 mins later on the way to the hospital it hurt SO bad. The 6-8 month recovery time also sucked.

I had my muscles in back lock up while I was harvesting seed in a field. They took me to the doctor and I could barely move at all. I had a gatorade before I got there cause I was semi-nautious. Doctor goes "Does it hurt when you straighten up?" and with that he lifted my shoulders and the pain was so bad I started hurling orange gatorade EVERYWHERE!!!!! Poor Nurse. Funny thing about it was that my mom was the Office Manager there and she also did the cleaning for extra dough. Yeah she had to clean it up!!!

I have broken bones in about 10 different occurences, but the worst pain wasn't a break. Although my broken leg playing football was pretty bad, it didn't hold a candle to the ruptured disc in my back. Maybe because the pain was daily. There were times I could not walk(literally)..and If I did walk, I looked like the Hunch Back of Notre Dame. I couldn't stand up straight...and many times I would collapse to my knees because the pain was unbearable.

oh man, reading that sibling story made me remember a few:

Sister stabbed me in the back with a bic pen, i threw up all over the floor. Doc said she hit some nerve cluster or something

Sister two-handed a metal collapsible chair into the back of my skull, sent me flying down the stairs. Sprained my wrist, but didn't feel it - too busy dealing with the pain in my head

Sister smacked me with a cordless phone - took a chunk out of the skin and meat from the back of my head... I remember it wouldn't stop bleeding, she was panicking - first time ever had to call 911... Didn't hurt so much, but the stitches in and out did. No local anaesthetics to the head, I guess.

When I was pretty little, my mom got in an accident with me in the back seat. Belt didn't catch, I smacked hard into the the glass. Tore up my eyebrow. Doc spouted some bs about being too close to a nerve cluster to administer painkillers, so the stitches went in and out - me feeling all of it. I remember kicking him, and when they finally held me down, i spit in his face. needless to say, the victory was mine. Pain from that was alright, but when you're little, it's apocalypse now

Worst pain: Got in a huge argument with my father at my cousin's wedding in nyc one night (i was drunk, 16 years old, being stupid). Drove home the next day, exhausted. On the way over to one of my students (to teach piano), I fell asleep. Put my brand new eclipse gs convertible into this giant rock in the middle of some hapless homeowner's lawn. Car somehow flipped over, roll bar triggered but i still made impact hard with the glass and the windshield. Shredded the right side of my body pretty bad, but no breaks (don't know how). Totalled the car. Climbed out of the driver's side window cause the car was laying on it's side. Collapsed in the middle of their lawn, they came running out and called 911. Strapped to a stretcher and rushed to the ER, looked a lot worse than it probably was- but it hurt like hell.

Scar free, though, maybe I should look into some adamantium claws.

When I was 17, I started having severe stomach pains to the point where I passed out from the pain one day in the kitchen. I had to be rushed to the emergency room to undergo all sorts of tests. One of them was a lower GI (barium enema) and I was already in so much pain that I wanted to be put under. But they kept me awake and pumped a bunch of air inside of me. That intensified the pain I was already in 100x over. I think that if given the option at that very moment, I would have chosen a bullet to the head just to end the suffering. That was over 16 years ago but I remember it like yesterday from how bad it hurt.

Was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and up until a few years ago, I have had to live with some of the most excruciating pain you could ever imagine, on a daily basis. Have a great specialist now and have been in remission for about 6 years. ~knocks on wood~

Runner up: was about 13 and thought it would be cool to ride down this steep road on my bike while standing straight up on the pedals, resting my pelvic area up against the handlebars with my arms up in the air. Lost control and slid about 10' over the top of the asphalt. And this wasn't that smoothed-surface type of road. It was the older kind that was really abrasive. Turned my hands, knees, shoulders, elbows and one hip into hamburger meat. I've never stung so bad in my life and still have some scars after all these years. Nothing like having to have the doctor spend 2 hours removing asphalt from your body with tweezers.

The worst for me was a headache brought on by meningitis. Unbelievable pain, though I barely remember many of the events of that morning because of the pain (and probably the 107+ fever).

I get gout pretty bad sometimes too. A few times I truly wanted to die. The last time I got it, I went to the doc for some pain meds three days after the worst of it was over. He looked at my toe and commented that it was a really bad case due to the redness and swelling. By that point the pain was probably 25% of what it had been (still painful but tolerable).

I've read the entire thread, and some of the things you guys have mentioned sound terrible. But jadinolf is quite right in his statment at the end of this quote. Very few everyday occurances could even be compared.

They made a 13 inch incision in my hip, went right to the bone, did a lot of sawing and a lot of hammering.

I doubt that many here have experienced that much pain. For me, after the anesthesia wore off, it was terrible.
