They are pretty horrible. Even worse is draining them. Like abscesses they smell like death.

And in order to get rid of them you have to open them and let them heal by secondary intent.
For you lay people that means leaving them open to fill in slowly over time with scar tissue. Also means that usually daily you have to remove the packing and repack and redress the wound. For a month ... at least.

I had this two years ago, getting it drained was the most painful thing ever. The doc squeezing all of it out was horrible plus the nearly two months of twice a day packing was also horrible. Something I'd never even wish on someone like Trident. This really was the worst experience of my life and yes the doctor said it smelled so bad when she was draining it even with her mask on.

I had 80+ pounds fall straight onto my head a long time ago, was a work accident. The pain from that was nothing compared to the resulting damage that has set in over the years. Had to have a titanium plate screwed into my neck vertebrae, so that a ruptured disc could be removed. Also have facet problems in the neck, a fracture, and a disease set in called cervical dystonia. Basically CD is your brain telling a muscle to always contract. In my case, my left sternomastoid in my neck is always pulling to the right. My spine in my neck has a curve now thanks to the muscle always contracting. If you were to look at my neck and head straight on, you can easily tell that my head is literally not on straight. This is incredibly painful, and wreaks havoc with the damage in my neck as well as causing chronic migraines. Talking about real migraines, not the kind of headaches that "tylenol migraine" formula helps with. The overall pain is so bad that I can't hold down food for days at a time.

I just learned that the most advanced treatment for CD is Deep Brain Stimulation. They bore a hole in your skull and place an electrode in your brain. This connects to a battery pack placed inside your chest cavity, and the two are connected via a wire ran inside your neck. Oh yea, you are supposed to be completely awake during the procedure too.

I have broken, had a accident on my Sea Doo (which resulted in whiplash)....but the worst pain I feel on a semi regular basis is my migraines....which all started after my Sea Doo accident. Half of my face went numb for 4 months or so....and now I get migraine's.

My appendix ruptured twice when I was 10, was in hell for 2 weeks while being misdiagnosed by doctors, finally got the damn thing cut outta me and had to get shit drained out for a month. For reference, the pain was like a vehicle parked on my stomach, but for two weeks.

Had a kidney stone once which was horrible but the most pain I've ever had was when my dentist nicked a nerve with minimal anesthesia while filling in a deep cavity. I thought my head was going to explode. It was like a sine wave of pain. Ahhhh!!! Ohhhhh! Ahhhhh! Ohhhh!

Got my wisdom teeth removed without being asleep. I assume they were hitting the nerves or something in my jaw because it hurt like hell a couple of times.

I didn't really mind though, laughing gas = :awe:

I had an ingrown toenail removed by a GP (not a podiatrist) and he put the local shot under my toenail. You know how ripping out finger/toenails is a kind of torture? Well, it was exactly like that only worse once he depressed the plunger.
