My back and arms are the colour of a rose. I'm giving off heat like a radiator lol. Still I've seen worse on others. Stupid mistake on the first snorkeling tour where i took my shirt off 1/2 way through the tour. Had sun screen on but the shirt was protecting my back and arms. Hurts. Had a great time here in Belize though! Returning tomorrow.

That plane ride back should be....pleasurable.

Yeah maybe. But then I've been riding these bucking bronco water taxis at least an hour a day or more. It's been real windy here, few clouds though.

I was 11....it was overcast, and I spent an entire day at the outdoor hotel swimming pool & hot tub, no sunblock........I was 11 so in my little brain, no sun = no sun block needed.

BOY WAS I WRONG!

Within an hour (of being inside), I developed blisters all across my shoulders. It was BAD. Of course when we got back from vacation (the next day) I was hanging out with my friends, and my lil sis was being bullied by some douch bag (a guy 3 years older than her) that lived a block over, I had to stand up for her of course, so we engaged in fisticuffs. The asshole tried to bring me down by jumping on my back, it hurt, tore what was left if my blistered skin off, all of it, across the shoulders. I didn't fall, instead I maintained my balance and went backwards into the wall next to us while he was on my back........He fell to the ground and my friends pulled me off of him before I could pound his face......

I was about 14, and got sun poisoning. I was throwing up, and had chills. I hate the sun.

5th grade pool party, no sunscreen, in the sun for six hours. Lots of nice quarter-sized skin flakes all over my shoulders and back for a couple of weeks. :awe:

About 10 years old, on vacation with my parents in Hawaii. Over cast day [cloudy] - black sand beach and no sunblock. Figured it was cloudy I'd be fine. Spent about 2 hours running around and having a blast.

Ended up having huge blisters on my arms and shoulders the next day. Parents dragged me around [speed bumps hurt like a mofo] to find aloe plants. All I could think about was getting back to Alaska to cool off. Was interesting to pop the bubbles - yellowish goo draining out... [cool stuff when you're 10 years old!].

Sounds like heat stroke, that can be fairly dangerous actually.

Nah, I've had heat stroke, or the beginnings stages of it before. The throwing up came after I got home. It took a couple hours before it set in. I've been hyperthermic, hypothermic, frost bitten, and sun poisoned over the years :^/

In my early 20's my wife and I rented a canoe and hit a lake in the middle of July. We packed a case of beer and were out on the water for about 6 hours. Beer + sun + sun reflecting off water = bad news.

Horrible blistering across my shoulders. I had oozing wounds for over a week. 10 years later I've still got freckles littered across my shoulders from that one day. Not one of my crowning moments of smartness.

got blisters everywhere, even on my scalp and the tops of my ears. I was about 10 years old. Now, I am much smarter (i also live on the beach) so i have not had a sunburn for about 10 years.

I cooked my nose pretty bad up at Lake Tahoe, spring skiing.
I remember it was 66 degrees at 10 AM, 8000' above sea level. Not so much UV protection left in the atmosphere at 8000'

Stuck doing land navigation for the Army one day and forgot sunscreen and my boonie cap. Instead, wore patrol cap and got sunburned from the bottom edge of the cap to the top edge of the collar of my BDUs. It was so bad it blistered in my hairline and then scabbed over and bled when I slept at night. It was a perfect line across my head, left brim edge to right brim edge. Worst ever.

PS - Use sunscreen. Just had four moles cut out that were pre-cancerous at age 35. Had to get 31 stitches total between all four areas.

Never had sunburn. Didn't get out that much as a kid, and I tan like crazy. I turned darker than my Indian friend last year (she was the fair skin type though).

I've since turned batshit crazy about sun safety, so I have a "lightweight" sweater with a hood that I wear in almost all weather conditions. And I have sunscreen on hand or will go buy a new bottle if I know I'll be out for a while. Better sweat and smell like shit than have teh cancers.

I've never had it that severe, but the most annoying time was when my scalp got sunburned. I had cut my hair short for the first time and was out playing basketball.

I was young, but I'm pretty sure I got second degree sunburn on my neck and shoulders when I was at summer camp.

I remember the skin being cracked and brown and spending a couple days in the infirmary where they kept putting creams on me. I've still got some scarring in the area to this day

Yikes these are some bad burns you guys got! Yeah blistering is a sign you know the burn is real bad. Never had one quite that bad, just to this point now where it hurts to rub anything against it, even clothes, but otherwise not too bad. I know that even one bad sun burn can increase your chances of skin cancer not insignificantly. Still will miss the tropical weather.
