Seen them called a lead screw. Also have seen power screw and translation screw.

Allthread? You probably have to do some machining/modification to get exactly what you want unless you find a kit part ready made.

I just did some googling (for "1/4-20 lead screw" and "1/4-20 power screw" and "1/4-20 allthread") and found all kinds of threaded bars, but none of them had the sliding rod like on a vice where you slide it, turn it with a long lever arm for torque, then slide it and repeat - you know what I mean?

Lead Screw is the proper term for what its being used for. Its not all thread, the thread on all thread is much smaller, the thread on this is ACME thread. Its used in Machining Vises like shown as well as lead screws on CNC and other equipment were part of the equipment needs to travel down a fixed trajectory or straight line.

Right, but still I need it to be attached to the little sliding rod so I can get a lot of torque when I twist it.

Just throw you a small pipe on the handle then. I may not be grasping what your aiming at though. Forgive me if I am. I used to use much larger version of this vise in our CNC machines in my R&D lab. They are fun to clean out when powdered metal chips gets in the bearing on the fixed head of the vise. But anyway you can use 1/4-20 on it. Your thread on 1/4-20 would be .050 apart. Thus 20 threads per inch.. Not sure about 1/4 acme rod as 1/2 ACME is 10 Thread per Inch or 1/2-10 ACME.

that is for a vice, it is not a bolt you will find, esp. in that small of a size. those acme thread rods are probably 3/4 dia. What you are making?

AnonymouseUser - ok, that might be the best plan. I'll have to figure out what to use for the rod, and how to fatten up the ends once it is inserted through the hole in the coupling so it doesn't slide out. Any suggestions there?

Buy a 1/4-20 coupling nut and a short rod. Drill a hole in the coupling nut for the rod to fit.

This would cause the tommy bar to jam against the threaded rod, thus preventing movement and locking it in place. If you need the tommy bar to slide you'll need to use a set screw or solder the coupling on the bolt. Loctite may even work if you won't be tightening it too much.
