He is on crack

He admits all through his article that the statistics are correct, and that the regression is plausible. Then he says stupid stuff like this

<< There is a considerable psychic cost to being a citizen in a nation of armed people warily navigating their way through their crime-free lives. >>

Excuse me? Why should I be wary in a society with less crime and good citizens armed to protect themselves? That simply makes no sense.

I agree with this guy.
If everyone carried around a gun, do you think a criminal would really try to mug another person
in the street?

Or if I was going to rob a house, would I rob a house where I know the owner has no guns or has 20 guns?

What is wrong with law abiding citizens defending themselves from the scum?

I know I carry.

Any increased stress I feel is when I see some of the individuals walking around, not from thinking some other law abiding citizen has a weapon.

I think he simply means that people would tend to be "on edge" more because you really don't know who's packing a gun or gun or not.

Granted, that situation exists now, but if gun laws were lax, far more people would being carrying concealed weapons than we currently have. The increased number of guns would increase the anxiety of not knowing who is carrying a gun not only for would be criminals, but also for law abiding citizens.

Ok, let me claer my point. I think everyone should own a gun. The guy who wrote the article lists all this evidence to support conceal and carry, then says "I don't like it.", essentially.

vi: Why would you be on edge? Would you not feel safer knowing that you are more likely to be protected by other citizens? Wouldn't the criminal element be suppressed by more conceal and carry? I know I would feel safer.

How many mass murderers and people that commit "heat of the moment" homicide have previous legal convictions that would prevent them from obtaining/concealing a gun legally? Most statistics show that not too many of them do hold previous convictions or criminal records and can legally carry a gun.

In theory, there could be more "potential" murderers walking around LEGALLY with a gun. That could produce the "edge" that the writer describes.

I'm not saying I'm agreeing with him, I'm just trying to rationalize his argument.

In addition -

Most of your mass murders and "heat of the moment" homicides would occur reguardless of penalties. It is for this reason alone that in many instances the death penalty really isn't much of deterrant.

In MI the passed a law allowing CCWs. I'll be one of the first to get one. CCWs are for law abiding citizens. They input ALOT of safe guards. Noone with a felony, arrested for violent crimes, such as bar brawls and domestic violence, and certain misdemeanors(sp?).

In my opinion, the anxiety being referred to is not caused by guns at all. I think it all depends on a person's personality.

Take me, for example. If concealed weapons were the norm, I would just assume that everyone carried. I wouldn't be anxious about who does and does not carry. I would simply trust my belief that all people are inherently good, and leave it at that.

Compare this with a person who gets anxious just by being in a public area. I'm pretty sure such an individual would be anxious about anything that threatens his/her safety.

Anxious types will find something to be anxious about, even if there isn't anything to be anxious about.

DRGrim: What are you taling about?

If you mean will I shoot someone who is breaking into my house, yes. If someone enters my apartment and is attempting to commit a crime, I will defend my life and property. HE tookt eh fscking risk entering my residence. HE will pay the consequence of screwing with the wrong guy.

Having a gun to defend your home is a lot different than carrying a gun with you down to the grocery store to grab a bag of chips.

I disagree. Protecting myself from someone trying to rob the store I am going to is important to me. I will protect my life, as I enjoy living.

And I disagree

Firing a weapon in public puts not only oneself and the criminal danger, it also puts any other pedestrian in the area in harms way as well.

Discharging a firearm in ones own home only puts ones self, the criminal, and ones family at risk. There are no "innocent" pedestrians that could be injured from it.

You can argue that you personally are a very good aim, but this doesn't help the fact that some person that has only fired a handgun three times in their life could be the one behind the trigger.

I don't want to turn this into a gun control debate. I'm simply playing devils advocate here.

You make a good point. The law makers ahve tried to make sure that all who have a conceal and carry are a good aim, but it doesn't work. In my state, there are 6 people who have conceal and carry permits, but are BLIND! Yes, I said blind. That is ridiculous.

I am in favor of scrapping ALL gun laws on the books, and making enforcable laws.

Do the countries with the highest per capita gun ownership have the lowest crime rate? That would be the logical result IMO if gun ownership prevents crime.

So many factors go into crime rates that to say gun ownership and crime rates should logically always have some direct relation is a fallacy. Demographics, cultural and social homogenity, political climate, and any number of other factors influence crime rate. For example, in a liberal society like the USA, criminals do not greatly fear punishment or social censure, so they run rampant.

Gun Control is a joke, taking guns away is retarded. The bad guys will always have guns, the good guys will not - does that make sense, hell no !

Why the hell dont they have some sort of test for owning a hand gun? Kind of like a drivers license. U have to demonstrate that u know how to use anf sftly maintain a gun. That you wont shoot urself in the foot by accident. THose that want a cary permit should demonstrate that they are capeable of placing shots in a tight grouping.

The sig says it, but I'll say it again, and use small words... because gun grabbers appear to be completely lacking logic.

Nobody robs a gun store in broad daylight.

Carry on.
