What is this pipe?

What is the name of the rusty pipe in the photo below? It's a 2000 Malibu with a 3.1.

It's part of the cooling system and is a bypass or distribution pipe of some kind. Few if any here would know the name for it I would think. It's not something that's used on all cars so...

Assuming you're looking for that part, my guess is that it's a dealer only item or the other option would be a junkyard. It's the type of part that is thought of to last the life of the vehicle so I can't imagine the aftermarket would tool up to produce it.

The dealer or someone with access to the GM parts system would be able to tell you for certain what its "official" name is.

Coolant bypass return from back of the block/head to the water pump. You can see the thermostat and water pump housing as well as the air bleeder screw. The back of the block/head will have a distribution tree that feeds throttle/iac warmer, heater core, oil cooler, temp sensors, upper radiator hose, and that pipe.

It is just called a thermostat bypass pipe, the lower one with the bleeder. The other one is under the manifold where that rubber elbow connects. All engine cooling systems have a pair of bypass hoses in one form or another.

I need to have my lower intake manifold replaced (again). Should I replace that pipe as well if it's rusting? It's been like that for several years.

Definitely. Most people are forced to dig into the lower intake to replace that pipe, but if you are already digging into the lower intake, definitely replace it while you're that deep.
