Maybe this was a fluke but..

I bought the Acer laptop on the Hot Deals section because it was a pretty good deal for a decent looking 14.1 inch laptop (I know I could have gotten a better specced out one from Dell outlet, but they are butt ugly).

Anyway, afterwards, my order status said "Call to Expedite order or something." So I call and the guy tells me its out of stock, but they have it from another distributor for $40 more, but they would take $10 off the shipping and give me a $30 rebate. I'm like oook, please cancel my order. Thats when he said, you know what, I 'll just send this out to you today at the price you ordered it.

I said fine, and that was that...

But certainly, this feels more like one of the other shady retailers that call you up and offer you accessories just to put the order through, but maybe it was really a case of OTS (seems like the deal is dead now).

Anyone else have experience?

Btw, the website still shows IN stock.

Yeah, that about adequately describes TigerDirect.

Just an update: I cancelled my order. I can't believe TigerDirect does business the way it does. I called in again to ask why it had not shipped (when earlier they said it would ship right out), and they BLATANTLY lied and said my Credit Card had a limit on it or it was on "Hold". I said that's not possible, and call Citicards, and they verified that the charge had already gone through the PREVIOUS day about 5 minutes after I placed the order.

Well I have to say I will never do business with TD ever again. Absolutely shocking to see the runaround they give customers, blatant lies, and inability to ship on time. The only thing I can say I am happy about is that they canceled my order pretty quickly.

That is good news. I fell victim to TG about 5 years ago - never again. Have since learned from a friend in Florida who is a pro in the business, that TG has always been notorious for offering gray market schlock at ostensibly reduced prices. You did well. Live and learn.

I don't have any idea why the guys that run AT would allow them to put a sticky ad on Hot Deals - I guess they'll take money from anyone. Prostitution is the name of that game...

Bought two sennheiser 150 headsets from tigerdirect not too long ago and one of the plastic packages had been cracked like it had been opened before. Also had a strange sticker on it that the other uncracked one didn't have.

Probably the last time I order from them.

Since TD is so shady to deal with, what are some good places to buy stuff from? I know of NCIX, but where else?

newegg.com has excellent service and is almost always cheap. For some items I also find zipzoomfly.com to be cheaper than newegg.com, but only on some occassions. My experience is that newegg.com has the best customer service of any vendor I shopped from. zipzoomfly.com is good, but customer service through phone is hard to reach.

newegg.com site also has great filtering mechanism to find your stuff more easily. They also have reviews from users on items. Only thing that sucks for me is they are California based and hence charge me tax!!!

Most of the time with newegg, they ship the same day, if you order early. I usually get what I order in 3 business days. The last time I ordered from zipzoomfly, it took 3 days just to get one graphics card boxed up and out the door.

I've ordered once from TigerDirect and it was a Samsung up-converting DVD player. (HD860).
It was a refurbished unit and it came packaged and looking like it was new. I had no problems.
I read so many negative things about TD, that I'm hesitant to go back. Seems like it must be a luck of the draw type thing. lol

I love Zipzoomfly, Newegg, Directron & svc.com. All great places with good service.

Ya that's exactly the impression I had of TG back when there weren't many other options. They turned it around for a while by offering good products at competitive products but the number of horror stories about TG lately is like turning back the clock 4-5 years.

Everyone just needs to do their part and do their homework to avoid getting burned. As much as I love Newegg, I've seen a decline in their service and products lately too. I've always looked to Newegg first because of their competitive prices, excellent support, shipping times, but most importantly, always stocking the latest and greatest toys. Seems like they're relying on reputation alone in some cases and maybe losing touch with their roots because of growth.

I too ordered an refurbished Samsung upconverting DVD from TD without any problems. It was well packaged and works great.

However I tend to purchase most of my stuff from Newegg, ClubIt, Provantage and Zipzoomfly, Buy or Amazon.

Oops, I meant to mention buying stuff in Canada. NewEgg has yet to offer services to Canada.

Ummm..... what do you mean "other" shady retailers? The TD logo should be in the dictionary next to "shady dealer".

Good for you that you didn't get burned too bad this time. Learn from your mistakes, and hopefully others will too. A Tiger does not change it's stripes... they are still the same old TD with the well-deserved reputation.

Go to the egg instead. No worries and no hassles.

If you're in eastern Canada, nexfan.com and xoxide.com will ship there. Maybe buy.com too but their rep isn't all that great either.

never heard a good thing about tigerdirect, I'm surprised they are even still in business.
I use newegg.com predominately and have since forever. I also use mwave.com - never had a single issue with either.
