what is/will be the new-gen killer app?

For me, when full versions of Gran Turismo HD and Rock Band are released, I may have to break down and buy an HDTV and a PS3. I could care less about every game currently on the market for any of the systems, but those games alone could be enough to make me plunk down the money.

How about for you?

Gears of War and Mass Effect. These two titles really caused me to set my contempt for Microsoft's console presence aside and take an honest look at the 360 (I never liked the XBOX). Needless to say I'm now the proud owner of an XBOX 360.

Still waiting patiently for Mass Effect .

Mass Effect will definitely be awesome. GoW is good, as will Halo 3. Bioshock and Two Worlds have also peaked my interest.

For PS3 Ninja Gaiden should be great as well as the multitude of FF titles.

Cross platform: Assassins Creed, GTA 4, Fallout 3, the list goes on.

it's pretty much between the ps3 or the 360.

if FF13 is crazy awesome, then i'll get a ps3.

if halo 3 is crazy awesome, AND they revise the hardware to not crap out all the time, then i'll get a 360.

if both happen i will implode.

Simply being next gen made me buy my 360. Although I guess at the time my brother bought his 360, and left it at my house. After playing around with the dashboard, streaming media, and played a few demos, I was hooked, and bought my own system the next day.

Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV are the next big killer apps. FF13 might also be one, but it's a little too far off to tell.

I would also argue that Gears of War is the only next-gen killer app so far - at least in the sense of a single game pushing console sales.

With my 360, it was to game on XBL with my bro, who had one already, so I suppose I'd have to say XBL was the killer app. We don't live far apart, but our whacky schedules make it easier to not have to go to the others house most the time.

I'll be getting a PS3 this week, tried to get one the other day, but the Viera, Fl. UberTarget was actually sold out! :Q The killer app I'm after is the Blu-Ray player. Saving $60 and getting the 5 movies was the clincher. The trimmings e.g. 3rd party HDDs, linux, and initial customer satisfaction with reliability don't hurt either. I've been wanting to play Resistance for a good while now too.

A Wii may end up in my son's room, and the killer app is the Kid friendly game library+ interactive controller.

I bought my Wii because of the controller and the awesome potential it has. Can't wait for Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, and Fire Emblem to come out on the Wii. Maybe even Battalion Wars 2.

I bought my Xbox 360 mostly for Xbox Live. Favorite game so far is Battlestations: Midway.

Please tell me GT:HD is the reason you're getting a PS3. Otherwise, if Rock Band is an exclusive, I'm gonna cry.

Haven't yet got a Wii, but if Metroid is really top-notch, I'll probably pick one up. Still have my Gamecube library that needs some attention as well.

Rock Band is not a PS3 exclusive.

If the OP is waiting for a full version of GT:HD, he'll be waiting a long time. I assume he's waiting for GT5. GT:HD was just going to be a remake of GT4 with better graphics anyway. Are people so entranced by eye candy that they'll buy a new system and a new game with no real improvements other than graphics? It's no wonder there are so many bad games, you people are entirely too easy to please.

Considering most people on ATOT spend $300 - $400 (or more) every year or so to upgrade their graphics card in their PC, this shouldn't surprise you

SSB: Brawl convinced me to buy a Wii. I always wished I bought a gamecube instead of my PS2. I had way more fun playing SSB: Melee, Super Monkey Ball 2, Mario Kart with my friends than I did with the PS2 game Madden 03 and Guitar Hero were great though. I'm more of a social gamer now, I got bored with single player and tend to enjoy onlne / same room gaming now.

I might buy a 360 for Halo 3 assuming some other interesting games come out as well and they fix the red ring problem. Guitar Hero 3 / Rock Band probably would have sold me if they weren't coming to the Wii too. (hopefully in rock band's case) The whole media center thing is tempting but I don't know if I would ever use it.

Nothing interests me about the PS3 yet but I'm sure games will come out eventually.

I had an XBox 360 for a while, but didn't really get to enjoying it until GHII came out. I think Rock Band will be the next killer app, doing exactly what GHII did - give players something different, something they've yet experienced with a gaming system.
