What is with jocks???

I'm talking about all the football and basketball players at my highschool. Just because they are in a sport they think it gives them the right to be completely obnoxious and disrupt other people??? I have atleast one in each of my classes and from just this small exposure to these fools makes me so irritated every single day. In my english class there is one that is constantly talking, and not just talking to a friend next to him, but announcing everything that he has to say to the entire class. There is another in my cisco class that tries to make fun of everything that everyone says, even though nothing that he says makes sence or is even relativily funny. Maybe in certain cases it is funny, but few and far between and it just becomes completely annoying. (this same jock also happens to be the one that I kicked out of my house after a night of drinking, if you read that post of mine....) These people are representing our school, and doing a bad job of it. I for one believe that jocks, football and basketball, are a complete waste of a human being, and would see no problem destroying their entire population.

All too often that is the come back for the one in my cisco class. Then when I respond with 'no' it will be something like "you panzy"... Well of course, he is obviously bigger than me, would one honestly stand up to someone that is bigger than them even if they know they were in for the beating of the century? I know I wouldn't.

Now I can't be the only one that has ever experienced something like this before. And I'm sure that this anger will pass, but ATOT seems like the best place to vent.

Fighting isn't that answer for everything, but it does solve many issues. If you don't have the guts to stand up for yourself, that you've lost the right to complain. Always try diplomacy first, but if that fails ruthlessness should follow.

It's unfair to generalize about any group,but unfortunately this behavior is often fostered and encouraged by the teaching staff and parents.I had the same issues with the jocks at my school,and it's roots were always the adults obnoxious obsession with living thier failed past through these teens and creating "Golden Boys"Who could do no wrong as long as they won the game.
They become more infantile and spoiled the longer they participate and when they are given a free ride in academics for performing well in athletics,they begin to believe they can do no wrong.
They are young and testing boundaries.If the adults don't supply them,they turn into ego obsessed monsters.
Sad,because only a few will go pro and reality is going to hit them full in the face after graduation.Don't worry-they'll get thiers!

I agree, either you stand up and beat the crap out of him (contrary to popular belief, most jocks are pansies, they just act tough) or just point out in class the fact that he's a stupid meathead...often and relentlessly. If he gets pissed at you, punch him in the nads and run away.

If it's any consolation, high school jocks turn into bell-curve fodder in college.

I wasn't very big in high school and freshman year I was messed with. I decide to send a message and picked a fight with a large upper classman. After humiliating him, it stopped. The point is, the do it because they can and they're are no consequences to it. If they are consquence, even if you do lose, they'll be less like to do it.

No, I am not a fighter and will never resort to something as low as punching someone in the nuts, even if I was a fighter I would never do something like that.

I'm not whining, I am speaking out for a large group of people that feel the same way and are sick and tired of being interupted by loud, annoying jocks. There is no place in school for behavior like that. When I am taking a test, I want to take a test and not listin to some baboon yell about how drunk he is going to get this weekend.

No, I'm about 5'9" 200lbs, not weak, I'm no hulk though, not glasses, contacts. I like to think that I am very outgoing, and I usually speak with said jocks on a regular basis.

edit: I would like to see someone prove why fighting someone is a problem solver, I'm sick of this "Go fight him, it will solve eveything" attitude.

How good are the teams these guys play on? You can always shlt on their play if they are starters, or shlt on them for not starting.

Or you could be mature and try to ignore them. If that doesn't work, consult your peers in class, then approach the teacher with the matter.

I was in the marching band so I was at EVERY game. I've had very good success with lines like "That was a real nice tackle on that kickoff return. Maybe if you weren't trying to grab his a$$ he wouldn't have returned that kick for a touchdown..."
"Shuddup. Go back to your little gay band."
That was quite a comeback. I think I'll go cry myself to sleep.
Then one day playing football in the neighborhood, a lot of the "real" jocks showed up and realized I was a lot better than they were and they started to keep quiet.

One guy decided to get physical and was pelting tennis balls at me. I whacked him in the side of the head with my racket. I found that people didn't mess with me as much after that. Funny thing was, I didn't even mean to hit him...I swung the racket, but I swear he was farther away than that.

One of the biggest misconception teacher drill into you at a young age is "fighting never solves anything". The entire history of the world would tend to disagree with them.

When you fight, there almost always a winner and a loser. The conflict is instantly decided. Nations have been doing it for centuries. I can understand you not wanting to fight, but if you don't stand up for yourself who will? Better to learn now rather than be walked all over on all your life.

Try to settle the situation peacefully by all means, but if the fails be prepared for a fight. Yes, kicking someones in the nuts sound bad, but if I have to choose kicking someone in the nuts and getting my ass kicked, I'm sorry, but the other guy will be cough up his nads.

oh your are sick of hearing it, well too bad. Unless you are going to go cry to your teacher, the only thing that will fix this is fighting him. I fought off 3 jocks at once in 8th grade. They kept pushing one of my friends in the hallway, so I yanked off my stuff and gave one of them a huge punch in the face, He got a black eye and a bloody nose. Then his other 2 idiot friends tried to hit me, one got me in the shoulder, but I managed to get the other in the stomach. I knocked the wind out of him. Then the guy who hit me, got my again, in the temple of my head, he was about 6" taller then me... I managed to punch him in the neck though. They all walked off, and never touched my friends again. Ahh the good old days of hallway fighting.

Well i am not exactly a jock ... but i did play 4 yrs of soccer in highschool .... all of my teammates were pretty cool....
Other of the so called "jocks" (basketball, football, baseball etc.) i have met are fairely cool ... people liked them genuinely ...

Yes most of them are not exactly the brightest but they treated other people well ...
But there is one smart football jock who went to Princeton .... and he was one of the nicest and smartes tguys i know in highschool

so maybe if you get to know him/them jocks better ... you might see something different

I never said that I was big, 5'8" is not that big. I also never said that I was non-geeky, I probably spend more time on a computer each day than you do. I have also probably logged just as many hours as the next RPG lover.

no... you didn't. did you not read my last post? Justify your reason for fighting, does being able to make someone bleed really make you that much better of a person.. I think not. In fact it makes you less of a person. Maybe you should try other ways of solving conflict than with fists.
