as much as i like technology i have zero interest (actually its prob disdain at this point) for smart home/internet of things devices
Your reply baffles me, frankly. Maybe I haven't had to deal with the stuff you're dealing with. I don't even have a dimmer switch in the house much less a control center for devices. I don't send my video or sound via wifi, although I guess I can if I want to.

I got some LED lights for my bedroom that I can change the color of using my smartphone (bow-chicka-bow-wow). It's a nice idea in theory, but the idiots who designed them put a small battery in them to keep the settings rather than using permanent flash-memory. So when they are left off for a while, they forget what color they are supposed to be and what mode they are in and we get disco-bedroom, which isn't as cool as you would think.

I'm surprised people like high color temperatures. High color temperatures are stupid.

You know how you feel at ease at night? Well why not make your home REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE like its high noon 24/7. Why would you want EVEN MORE blue wavelength light in your home when everybody is overdosing on the stuff anyway.

Sure it makes you feel alert temporarily until you have to get up for work in the morning and hit the snooze for 2 hrs.

I'm the same way, only way I like that stuff is if I design it myself. I have a "smart" hvac control system for example, but I built it from the ground up. No cloud BS, no proprietary app, just a web page that works on any device that has as web browser. I don't get the point of discrete apps, make it web based, then it works on anything without having to install anything extra.

I like amber lighting almost everywhere. I've been slowly replacing my lamps with Edison style LEDs. They aren't quite as good as burning wires, but it's not a bad approximation. I think they're 2200K

.
because i like accurate colors. also i almost never use direct lighting unless im cleaning, my entire house is 5000k bulbs, and 90% of them get bounced off a wall or shot through a lamp shade, so its diffuse and gets colored by wall paint

6500k bulbs are the ones that are stupid blue, 2200k is like being in a dark room (developing photos)

As far as color temperature, rooms like Kitchen, and over the Bathroom sink should have a high color temperature, at least 5000K. Bedrooms and Hallways should be much lower at about 2000-3000K.

I tend to like "cool white" 5000k range for general lighting. I find it offers a brighter whiter light. If you go higher than that it's too blue, and lower it's yellow and seems less bright for the same lumens. That said, nothing beats old incandescent Christmas lights for their warmer glow around Christmas time. The warmer glow of incadescent does offer a nice light for living rooms and such.

I have the 8W walmart brand ones in my fixtures. A 4-pack of the "60W equivalent" runs $1.98 + tax. I just wish the "100W equivalent" ones were cheaper as I'd really like to put those in my front room.
