What Is With This Girl?

OK, I'm lost on this one. There is this girl who works in the same building as me (suite next door), and we've become friends over the years. When I first met her she had a dope of a boyfriend and then we had a falling out, didn't speak for months.

Suddenly, about a month ago she reappears, but this time she's "seeing someone." So, like the idiot I am, we start hanging out (dinner, movies, beach), and we have a good time. I'm thinking in my pathetic mind that maybe there is something there, but then reality kicks in and I realize that every girl I meet just wants to be my "friend."

So, she disclosed that the dope she's seeing is now her boyfriend. Ouch! She cursed at me. She said boyfriend! Fine, no problem. I'm backing off now by not calling or paying much attention to her. She now calls me for things she should be calling her boyfriend about. I don't want to be a shoulder for her to cry on. The hell with that!

So my question is, why would women stay with guys that don't offer what they want? Do these women honestly think they can change a guy?

You're the nice guy that hangs out with her, is sympathetic, understands, etc. Her boyfriend is the guy that sexually turns her on.

Did you in your time spent with her 'tell her straight out that you had feelings for her?'. Well if you didn't then how was she suppose to know? Sometimes you got to be blunt. Well I figure if a girl likes you enough and shes not seriously in too deep with this other guy she'll leave any guy for a guy that she likes better bar being married and kids involved in general. Like who doesn't want to be with a person they like more?

If you don't want to be a friend and hear her ramblings and be her shoulder to cry on don't. Don't do anything you don't want to do. Tell it to her straight that you don't want to be her shoulder to cry on. Then you won't be hearing from her again.

I agree with that. The girls I know want to get to know you first then go further if they like you. And when they say friends they are not attracted to you. But if they're not sure they'll just see more of you.

Isn't this true for guys too, though? If a girl is cool, but you aren't really attracted to her, you tell her you just want to be friends.

Beware! Girls in their late teens and early twenties seem particularly prone to the "keeping one on the backburner" tactic, sometimes even subconciously. If you want to drive her nuts, inquire if she's ever cheated on a boyfriend or entertained the thought... and do it right about the time you have to leave.
