What is wrong with me? I haven't upgrade my base system since '03

At least some of your systems have nice vid card and next gen A64 cpu.

Its hard to justify upgrade with wife, (1) 2.5 year old and a newborn 3 mth old.

I am still chugging along on an Asus A7N8X board with a barton 2500+ overclocked to 3000+. (I could push it more but I have a lousy case with crappy air flow so I did not want to push it) I am also still running a 9700 Pro in there with 1 ide 80GB HD.

Besides, the MB, CPU, vid card out there are just too expensive to justify and I hear that this summer there may be better stuff coming out so I'll wait for the sloppy seconds

Pretty much the same for me. Barton 2500+ and a GeFroce 5700. The only thing i've bought recently is stick of 256MB DDR. Only reason was b/c it was $10 AR and i couldn't refuse for $10 Now i have an unusal amount of RAM at 768MB. Funny, i have a thing about uncommon amounts of RAM, i still run an old gateway PIII 450MHz box that has 384MB SDRAM.

well I'm runnin that good old 1700+ pushed to 2.3ghz with a softmodded 9500 to 9700 radeon. Funny thing is that through all my upgrades I still have this, probably 4x, dvd rom from my original computer, a 1.1athlon bought for college freshman year.

1700+@2.4ghz w/ a 6800GT gets the job done.

No need to upgrade for awhile.

Part of it is simple.

You don't NEED to upgrade.

Sure a FX-55 @ 2.8 or something similar with 6800GT in sLi and 2x74gB raptors in Raid O

But who wants to spend that much? Not many.

I still see so reason to upgrade when I built the rig in May 2003 (spent <800). Running a tbred b and 9500 pro. Can handle the latest games. All I did was add a couple 160/200 gig drives and a new monitor but no need to replace cpu yet. I did add an htpc, built a barton 2500+ system for sis for ~400. It's so tempting though since my friend's going from his tbird 800 to an a64 3000+ winchester system for (~400, other post).

Totally. I've been researching a new rig (components, that is) for well over a year and a half. My current ma-cheen is a Falcon N/W AthlonXP 2100+ w/ a GeForce 4 4600. Now that I have the cash, I'd like to go this exact route (Winnie 939, X800XL or 6800GT, gig of LL PC3200 yada yada.

I just don't know which MoBo to get or exactly which H/D!! Lost.

Beauty (see sig) is just 1700+ (which I've never bothered to figure out how to unlock and run at higher speed), 512 MB 2700 RAM, MSI KT3 Ultra2 mobo, ti4600. AFAIK, it's got all the power I need, but I may be wrong. Not sure my MyHD 120 HDTV card would work in a 64 bit CPU system, heard it won't with a 64 bit OS.

Still running on an Athlon XP1800+ @ 1.67Ghz, MSI KT4V-L mobo (sucks, don't get one), 3 x 256MB PC2700, R9200 AGP (sucks, too slow), and three HDs and four opticals. The newest additions were the R9200 (when the GF2MX AGP died), a 250GB HD, and a 4X DVD burner. (Should have bought a DVD burner a long time ago!) Oh, and a USB 2.0 WiFI NIC too.

Not nearly cutting-edge, but fast enough to do everything that I want to do, other than play current games. Waiting for the tech to settle-down a bit more before upgrading, I made that mistake with this rig, I bought it just before the NF2 chipset and TBredB CPUs came out, and have been slightly kicking myself ever since. The video card has been dying for an upgrade for some time, but I haven't seen any mid-range cards that I would consider a decent value yet, although an NV43-based 6200 AGP card, if it can be unlocked and overclocked, would likely be my best bet. (Well, my current boycott of NVidia notwithstanding.) Also decided to put together a side-grade rig with an 845PE and a P4 mobile CPU, just for fun, hoping that it will be more stable than my current Via-based rig. (Since the CPU was free.)

I just finished my last upgrade this week . My last config was a PIII 600Mhz 256MB RAM PC133 Memory and a 40Gig HDD Nvidia Riva TNT2 32MB. . thing cost me 1400$.. about 5years ago.

AS OF TODAY IT IS STILL RUNNING WITHOUT ONE MODIFICATION TO IT.

CAN ANYONE BEAT THAT?

I started out with an A7N8X-Deluxe, XP200+, 512MB XMS3200LL, 9700 Pro, 80GB WD Special Edition HD in Feb '03.... I've since added only an extra 512 stick of RAM, switched to an AXP Mobile 2500+ and added a WD1200JB HD. So no major upgrades as of yet, though I do have an NF7-S coming so I can overclock a bit more... along with a 15k rpm SCSI drive that I'm going to install my OS on. I've yet to upgrade my video card because I don't game at all. I'm considering getting a 6600GT with dual DVI so I can run two flat panel monitors. I have an LG1910BK as of right now and love it. I want one more to go with it. I'm waiting for dual core Athlon64's to do a major major upgrade, though.

I've always been slow to upgrade, I get a kick out of people who think 9800s are obsolete when my 4600 will run current games like Far Cry, Doom 3 and Halflife 2 in 10x7 with high settings :laugh: PC upgrading is 'keeping up with the Joneses' at its worst.

Just like me too, I originally had a P4 2.4 in the summer of 2002 but I finally upgraded 2 days ago (ordered parts from Newegg and Monarch). So finally after almost 4 years, I'm going to be running a AMD 64 3500+ which is a nice upgrade for me.

My big rig (see sig) is blindingly fast. But my other 5 Athlon64 systems seem just about as good for far less money most of the time. Now the only excitment I have found lately is when I gain another position in F@H (currently 6th), but now it will be months before I gain another one. Right now everything in the computer world seems a little stale.

not the oldest computer around, but i'm still running the athlon xp 1700+ i built a few years ago. 512 MB pc2100, received a geforce fx5600 from my brother who upgraded. i could use another stick of 512. i played HL2 with no problems, maybe i'm less demanding than some other members, i wont have to upgrade for another year or two. just like my current system, my next system will be fast for it's time, then i'll use it for a very long time. i dont upgrade my computers as much as some other people. now my home theater, THAT is where i suffer from upgrade-itis.
