Even though I have a Q6600 running smoothly at 3.6, I found myself
unable to give up the old E2140@3.4. In fact I found myself doing most
of my work and play on this backup pc while the quad is collecting dust.
That little E2140 is just my all time fav.

My fav is my C2D E6750, but I also loved my old 2.0Ghz Northwood p4 and my 800Mhz PIII from ages ago.

When I was able to save up money for my Athlon T-bird 1.4ghz and get rid of my COMPAQ k6-2 475mhz (which ran like a pentium 200), I could finally play games again. It was a triumphant day.

Of course, my current q9550 is like 1 in a thousand for overclocking hotness, and I love it as well.

I had a Celeron 1.0 Tualatin Core (256k L2), I did a pinmod, and managed to push it to ~1.6Ghz. Got the chip for free, and on an Asus 815 mobo, had many many good nights of gaming. Was competitive with some of the best cpus at the time, like the Athlon T-Bird 1.4Ghz, Athlon XP 1500+, P4 1.8ghz, etc.

My over-clocking experience sums up to about 5 years-worth. I never took the AMD-plunge when AMD was "on top," because the cycle of my computer-building efforts -- limited in dollars, a penchant for cost-effectiveness and other factors -- was long enough to leap-frog any action on the AMD platform.

So my experience has been limited to Northwood and Prescott P4's, Conroe E6600 and Q6600, and last year's spate of Wolfdale-Penryns.

While my Q6600 @ 3.15 Ghz is humming along just fine, I'm most impressed by the E8x00 Wolfdales in the E0 stepping.

And to that end, I will, within minutes, post another thread of inquiry about those. I just got some low-latency G.SKILLs spec'd at [DDR]=900Mhz, and want to push my E8600 a tad further without burning it up.

Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred never OCed but loved a lot. It was my first 2Ghz computer and i played games like crazy on that and in those days that was my gaming, music, etc rig.

Still have it in storage and it works great...!!!

q6600 @ 3ghz seems great enough but it did not give me the WoW factor i got with the Athlon maybe i am too old for the WoW factor

Opteron 144 - Depending on what sort of price you could find, they could be CHEAPER than the Athlon 64 equivalent, overclock 50%, and perform equally well to the most expensive chip sold even if it was also overclocked. Even the amazing E4000-series overclocks didn't let the $100 chips tie the performance of an overclocked X6800.

All in all, equal overclocking headroom and equal amounts of cache across then entire line FTW.

hmmm I have a few that are pretty much equal in my eyes

AMD Am3x86 DX-DXL 40mhz....when I had that way back in 92 it was faster than a lot of early 486's

Intel i486 SX 33mhz....it was miles faster than the 386 that I upgraded from.

AMD Am5x86 133mhz....that puppy just ran sweet at 160mhz and was as fast as many Pentiums that my friends had

AMD K6-3+ 550mhz....I still got this in it's original system, it was faster than a lot of P3's at the time.

AMD Athlon 1.4ghz.... this was just simply a beast, and a worthy upgrade to my K6-3+, I should have kept that one.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (754)....Still got this one and it still runs at 2.87ghz, just like the day that I got it, 3 years ago.

hmmm, I do like my C2D (E4300@3.33Ghz)and C2Q setup (see sig), but I can't think of anything special to say about them...

I thoroughly enjoyed our old 866mhz PIII and its RD-Ram. Technically I started gaming on our old HP w/ Win95 but it was our Dell PIII that I took my gaming to whole new levels, lol. But my favorite is my AMD San Diego 4000 I'm running in my good ole 939 setup, allowed me to max out settings in BF2 and that was all I wanted my PC to do. But soon I will have an AMD 7750.

The Q9550 in my current rig. Simplest overclock I've ever done with mostly minimal voltages.

Well, there are so many. At the time my DX5 133 AMD (I think it was) was great. Then was the K6-2 166, then XP2500, then Althon64 3000, then X2 4400, then C2D E6300, Then Q6600.

My E8400 is OK, but it doesn;t OC as much as the others I have had.

By far my favorite was the original Athlon K7 slot A with goldfinger OC'ed to 1GHz.

My computing experience took a step-function order of magnitude type of increase when I migrated to that from my prior rig (K6-2 333MHz).

From my perspective, everything I have used (CPU-wise) since then has been evolutionary improvements to my computing experience. LCD screens, GPU's, and now SSD's all provided much more noticeable impact on my quality of computing life than even my quadcore cpu's have provided.
