Documentary style photojournalism. If it's burning, bleeding, flooding, shooting, running from the cops or any other disaster then I'm your man. Hell, if it's an ice cream social, city council meeting or kindergartners on a field trip to the zoo I'm still your man.

I wouldn't really consider myself an expert in anything, but I do have pretty high standards for that title. Maybe locating information.

Others might consider me an expert in certain areas of the law (securities regulation, virginia civil procedure), writing, and data analysis. I don't think I'm quite there as an expert on any of those 3, but maybe some day in one of them.

Your statement is logical, but it is too general to reflect reality. I know a lot of folks with PhD's. Some are smart. Some are dumber than a box of rocks. Thus, saying that "any" PhD candidate (or even "any" PhD) is an exeprt in their field is accurate.
Nobody said anything about intelligence.

And when I say their specific field, I don't mean in broad terms such as math, english, biology. I mean specifically they stuff that they are doing research and are publishing on. They would be an expert in that.

I wouldn't call myself an expert but there are a couple things at 25 that I wouldn't be surprised if other people called me in expert in.

Specifically trauma nursing, and placing intravenous access/drawing blood/anything phlebotomy wise. I'm that person that other nurses come to whenever they can't draw blood from you and generally I'll get you on the first attempt.

That being said I'm still learning a few tricks of the trauma nursing trade, however I know a lot more then at least 98% of my nursing co-workers at my job when it comes to adult trauma nursing.

Respect to you.

I'm a relative expert in microscopy -- particularly with regard to research science, though I've become a little rusty since I've moved on to different types of instrument with a change in job.

Also debating religion and other philosophical subjects on internet forums.

Napoleon Dynamite: Well, nobody's going to go out with *me*!
Pedro: Have you asked anybody yet?
Napoleon Dynamite: No, but who would? I don't even have any good skills.
Pedro: What do you mean?
Napoleon Dynamite: You know, like nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.
Pedro: Aren't you pretty good at drawing, like animals and warriors and stuff?
Napoleon Dynamite: Yes... probably the best that I know of.
Pedro: Just draw a picture of the girl you want to take out... and give it to her for like a gift or something.
Napoleon Dynamite: That's a pretty good idea.

Well I have nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills and computer hacking skills. Yeah, and I can draw unicorns and warriors and stuff too.

I can really only claim to be an expert on one type of high speed seal I'm working on for my job. Right now there's only one other guy that has comparable knowledge and he's retiring in October. We're the only company that makes this kind of seal so that would pretty much make me the only person in the world that's had any experience designing them.

Organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry. And to Mike Gayner: Yes, a PhD candidate is an expert. Plain and simple....not the best, but an expert, as in the eyes of a court of law.
