I'm getting old.

I never really considered the Commodore 64. I have fond memories of Oregon Trail in Grade School on that machine.

If you want my honest advice. The Q9550 will be expensive and you'll be very limited with that multi even.

If you can save 200-250 dollars more, you can pick up a QX9650 which is a much better chip if your overclocking. Otherwise step down to the Q9450 or X3350. Thats a much better financial step if your add in overclocking.

If you dont overclock at all, then nevermind.

And then much later, owned by me, and for me:

VIA C3 733
Intel P4 2.4C
AMD 64 3500+
AMD 64 X2 4400+
Intel C2D 8400

486 -> PII or PIII (never found out which, I was like 14, give me a break) -> some early P4 (blech) -> P4 Prescott 3 GHz -> ANOTHER P4 Prescott 3 GHz (I'm just a sucker for punishment, I guess. The first one broke in an... experiment) -> S939 Opteron 165 -> The bountiful future

386 -> 486 -> PI 100 -> PIII 500 -> XP 1600+(?) -> AMD64 3200+ -> AMD64 6000+ -> E8400 -> soon to be Q9x50

I might have had a 286(?) or whatever before 386 I was like 10 so I don't f'ing remember. I know it was slow as hell and couldn't run doom

i enjoy seeing the people with predominant amd-sided or intel-sided buying trends, or sticking to one brand over the entire life of their pc use; versus the ones who've obviously bought the price/performance overclockers from either camp.

Err, well I BUILT many computers for many people over the years. Mainly my close family (1 per person in recent years). But I PERSONALLY owned the following:

-486 of unknown type @ 22 / 33mhz (depending on turbo) with 1MB of ram. I later upgraded to 9MB of ram and a 60MB hard drive. I think. Back in ye olde DOS days.
-unrecalled computers
-PIII 550 mhz
-AthlonXP barton 2500+ @ 1833mhz
-AthlonX2 windsor 3800+ F2 @ 2ghz
-Intel E8400 wolfdale C0 @ 3ghz

pentium 100mhz = (packard bell, ps died)
celeron 400mhz = (e-machines, ps died)
athlon t-bird 850 mhz = (built myself, msi mobo died and took cpu with it)
duron 850 mhz = (to replace athlon 850)
xp 2000+ = (upgrade for the duron, gave to brother)
p4 1.6a@2.1ghz = (built myself, retired it into the closet after 5-6 years)
e4500 @ 3ghz (current rig) , i'm still using the packard bell keyboard from the p100. lol.

basically learned my stuff from upgrading and trying to fix all my dead rigs.
