My dad is an immigrant so I am a dual citizen (American/Irish) and I don't really "stick" with any other Irish people, because everyone claims to be Irish in the US.

It usually goes like this:
Them:"I am blah, blah, blah, blah and Irish."
Me: "Oh yeah? Well, I see your irishness and raise you citizenship! Eat it, bitch!"

my fam has been here since the US was colonized buy the Europeans. so umm white people

Did you find that out by researching it or was it just known in the family ?

I ask because I sat down last year and did tons of research on my family and where we came from because we have an unusual last name, which really makes it easier. I used genealogy.com and rootsweb along with a lot of digging into census records. I found out our first ancestor came here in 1675 from Bern, Switzerland. The last name was mangled because it is now spelled like it sounds rather than the way it was spelled.

If you or anyone used any sites you found useful I would love to hear about them. Always looking for good genealogy sites.

I am just plain Chinese. I used to be about identifying with the Asians, but now I don't really care. In fact, I would say I have a more difficult time relating to some of the Asians around.

My Grandmother on my Dad's side is a DAR (Daughter of the American Revolution) and can trace her roots back to the Revolutionary War in this country. My Mom's ancestors came over from Sweden in the late 1800s.

apparently my german side has two genealogists in it. they have changed our original history of being german to being swedes that moved to germany back in the 1400s or so. have a family castle and all hehe. they then came to america in the late 1600s and haave been here since. my mexican side (part spanish in there somewhere) came over the border a bit before my gramma was born. her older siblings were born in mexico, she and her younger ones were born here. they were migrant farmers that immigrated, not illegal swimmers.

i think tracing family roots is fun and cool, but not really super important in the grand scheme of things. i still consider myself to be an american overall, despite where my families came from

I'm almost 100% German, and I identify fairly strongly with it.

I don't think a lot of people actually know their origins or they when they do decide to find out the people that could have told them are dead. That was another reason I did the research last year, my dad just turned 80 and I probably could not have gotten the info I needed had he not been here.

I know it is boring to listen to people in their 70's + talk about when they were little, but sometimes there is a lot of info that only they have .

It's pretty interesting to hear old timers talk about when they were little. If you're bored, you aren't paying attention ;^)

Half Puerto Rican, quarter Italian, quarter Polish-area countries.

I don't identify with any of them. I'm not even sure if I have an accent. I've been told by some that I have a very New Jersey accent (whatever that means), while others say I'm about as close to a phonetically perfect speaker as they've ever heard.

My dads side always told me growing up that we were german, but after I researched it I found out that it was not really so. We came from the Swiss area not the Rhine, they are close though so easy to confuse.

I think it is fun too, like some of the names I found , Huda, Sylek . Also found records on how hard it was to live in times like the 1800's. One family had 8 children, none lived to be older than 6 years old. Part of my research I had to go to cemeteries and find old grave markers with dates and names. Lots of them were for children and babies in the 1800's eras.

The only thing important about it really is in genetics and determining what you are likely to become ill from based on your genes. Otherwise I count myself as American too !

Full Arab. I actually have very very few Arab friends. That is just because my area doesn't have that many....I really want to make some though; I don't care if they are Arab - race and ethnicity is all a social construction - I just want to speak Arabic

I'm half Polish; most of the rest is Irish, with some other European thrown in. I look like a generic white guy.
