based on that other thread on why ppl speed, why not. if i have to drive 10 hours, but can cut it down to 6.5 hours why not [from SJ to San Diego]

i was caught this weekend doing 110 past LA on fwy 101, few cars on the road, still dark. making record time until i see the flashing lights behind me.

and i wasnt the fastest on the road either, 10 minutes b4 another car sped past me so they had to be going way more than 110, but then right b4 i got pulled over i passed them and they were going real slow, they musta had a radar detector or something :|

friend said it'll cost me about $10 per mile over limit, which in my case comes to like over $300. nutz

it was a speed trap cuz after daylight came, we saw several more squad cars at random intervals on the side of the road just waiting for us revenue drivers

It sucks that the cops trap speeders. I so much prefer viewing their corpses after they've killed a family member.

77 in a 55 = $239

Just got it about a month ago. Didn't even see the state trooper on the side of the road til I went past him....I mean how often are they in the breakdown lane standing out of the car w/ the radar out? :disgust:

72 in a 45. $129. The officer (Mike Budds of Bartlett Police if you want to know ) Said I took a corner from struckman ( a 2 lane residental street ) and amde a right turn onto RT. 59 ( a 4 lane highway ) at 72 MPH in my GMC Jimmy. Ummm... Ya right.

Went to court and lost. Judge basicly said, I belive the officer, not you. FI the officer said you broke the laws of physics, I will believe him.

So $129 later I am off to driving school :|

72 in a 55.

Paid $78 to the clerk rather than bother seeing the judge.

It drops off in 16 months.

I once got a ticket for 85 in a 55. Too bad I wasnt speeding. At least then I would have had the ride I paid for.

90 in a 55 cost me 190 or something like that in 1984. I was going thru Orland (sp) Cali at 12 noon. Looked to my right and saw a plane then a buddy in the back seat said I had better slow down as there was 3 cops behind me. I got asked if I wanted to go to jail.. I declined. I was going home from school in Phoenix for Xmas.

They didn't give an exact speed, maybe radars didn't/don't go high enough. It was 1982, "speeds in excess of 125 MPH". It was on a 1979 Honda CB750SS. If I remember correctly, it was the first year they came out with twin cams and 4 valves per cylinder.
Cost = couple of hours in jail and $300.00 fine. I was stupid back in the day.

76mph in a 45mph zone.
Ticket: 189---->89 after school, no point on record if go to school
Traffic School: 140 (Late to the second session of the first class, had to resign up, Don't ever do this!)

Darn, I really, really, really dislike those motorcylce cops. Oh, btw, it was about three to four months after I got my license. It was out in the country-roads (backroads or whatever), and my moms cars has VTEC. Man, VTEC can get ya in trouble, it'll also give you acute-heavy-footedness =) .

i was coming out of school (college) doing 50 in a 25 and officer said it was a school zone. I tried fighting the ticket w/o my lawyer and managed to get the school zone portion of the ticket dropped seeing as it's not marked anywhere on campus. The 50/25 still set me back a couple hundred here in MI.

I had a very similar "first" ticket. Was 79 (I think) in a 45. Was about 12yrs ago though. Was driving a 72 Cutlass Conv. Was riding behind a rolling roadblock (two old folks) and one of them turned so I stomped on it to get around the other car before the intersection only so I didn't get trapped again across the street when it went to one lane. Well, sure enough, as I merged back over there was a motorcycle cop in the median.

I don't know what I was thinking, but, the cop got in behind me and after the light changed and we started moving he put his lights on, and instead of pulling over I was waiting for him to go catch someone else.

Of course, there really wasn't anywhere to pull over (or so I thought at that time) thus, when I did realize I was the law breaker I drove even further to where the road widenend and I could pull off the main road into a development (maybe 1-2miles in total from where he first did his lights). Well, by that time there were like 4 cops there and I was just lucky that they took pity on me (realized I was a stupid kid speeding) and JUST gave me a ticket and let me go. Looking back, it's really funny (& stupid) how I did EVERYTHING wrong on that one. Live and learn.

I elected to go to driving school for that one which got rid of the points and waived the ticket fee but you had to pay court costs and school which I think was $80-100 or so. Insurance still went up. Nowadays it'd be that much PLUS the amount of the ticket. And I Don't even want to think what it would do to my insurance.

Exactly the same thing happen to me, and the trooper was driving year 2000 Lincoln Town Car unmarked!!! He clocked me 83 at 65, have to pay $225 and got 4 points. The points will remain on your record for three years and cost me a significant amount of extra money for insurance.

Next time you get a ticket call up the prosecuting attorney and ask them if they are willing to have your ticket differed. Depending on your age, if you drive without any ticket or incident for a certain period of time (3-6 months), the original ticket will be wiped from your record. This means no points and no insurance notification. During the 3-6 month time period the insurance company still won't be notified (aka the ticket won't go to the state).

This worked for my aunt and I in a smaller rural county. So YMMV depending on where you get the ticket. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask. Also, it may be referred to as something different elsewhere, I'm not sure. Most people don't even know about this though. I have a theory that if you just recently paid off your ticket, you might call up and ask to see if you can still do this.

I never had to go to court and I paid $25 extra for the filing fee (obviously still paid the fee for the original ticket). Small price to pay to avoid the insurance hike.

Hopefully others have done this and can provide more information.
