Come on. You're all overlooking the obvious...

PONG !

Talk about depth and replay value: You can play with normalpaddles, little paddles, BIG paddles.

It was also the first Sim since it accurately modelled the physics of air hockey.

After that, I'd say Half-Life and System Shock 2... .

C'mon now, how many times are people gonna ask this question?

Are you sittin' around in a rocking chair, drinking lemonade, and thinking about ol' times?

Anyways, I had to answer this question. My fav' all-time has to be Wasteland. Damn I loved that game. Nothing like emptying your Uzi clip into some punks and mowing them down.

Couple of titles come to my mind. Some classics (my classics) include Might & Magic 1 (i think) for Nintendo (yes, the 1st one!), then there is WarCraft 2, Quake 2, Doom 1 and 2, StarCraft, but the game that grassped my heart for ever is -=Diablo=-. That game just kicked a$$ and it still does. It is my favorite classic!

Logic: Tetris (1988?)
Space Combat: StarCon2 (1992?)
Single-player FPS: Half-Life (1998)
Multiplayer FPS: UT (1999)
RTS: Starcraft (1997)
Car racing sim: Test Drive 3 (1990?)

and my rant about car racing sims: modern car racing sims like NFS5... are HORRIBLE... test drive 3, you could go offroad and hit chickens... there are no chickens in NEED FOR SPEED! WHERE ARE THE FSCKING CHICKENS???!!!

Star Flight, circa 1985. It's very old though, and getting it to run on a modern computer would be hard.

That game came on two 360k 5-1/4" floppies, and somehow it made you feel like you were exploring the universe. Ten years later, Star Control 2, with its 50 megs or so of game data couldn't match the expansive feel of the Star Flight world. Probably because of the wholly disappointing planet-falls in SC2.

I feel so old now...

I'm re-discovering Jedi Knight. With an 800+ CPU and a GF2 (or V5 I imagine) you can run it at 1600x1200 no problem. It also runs great with FSAA at 1024x768.

Some of the best level design EVER.

I have not been into games until recently, (I use my system for business) but I had Unreal (came with a video card) and liked it. I have since bought a bunch off of the for sale forum, and really liked Unreal Tournament. My favorite one now is Diablo 2. I started playing one weekend, and totally lost track of the time. I played for around 10 hours straight one day, and about 8 the next. The resoultion could be improved, but it is a great game. I just purchased the original Diablo from someone, and if it is anything like 2, it will keep my spare time happily occupied for a long while to finish both games playing each character.

I have heard a lot about EverQuest, how does it compare to Diablo 2 in single player mode?

God damn! This was an easy one! Fallout 1 & 2 are lightyears ahead of any other game I've ever played. You don't "play" these games you LIVE them! A little frustrating though that only Sunner and I've mentioned them. If you haven't tried them, do it

Zenith, actually I didnt mention FO2
It was a tad too buggy when it came out for me to nominate it for best game of all times, but once patched up, it would fit right there next to FO1

Sunner, I think rampage came out a little later. Crush Crumble and Chomp is pretty old. I just remember that it was a turned based program. You would have to use a turn to move the monsters head to aim the flame and would have to chase down hapless civilians for food. Spent way too many hours on this game.

Was rampage for the c64?

Commodore 64: Hmmm trying to remember. Beach Head 2 was good and Epyx wares simply rocked. I also had Strip Poker (hey, I was 14!!!!).

Wing Commander Privateer was an awesome game I tried Privateer 2 for a bit, but just found myself going back to the original all the time, for some reason I can't get the sound to work anymore on my new system...so I go back to the 486

I can't believe no one's mentioned California Games! (C-64). It was better than Summer and Winter games because the surfing was the closest I ever got to mastering a game.

EA's NHL'95 is probably second-best.

But I've recently gotten back into games via the PC and I have to tip my hat to Hight Heat 2000 and Q3Arena.
