Greetings,

For me it was seeing the Rolling Stones in '69 (yeh, that's right, I'm an old hippy retired to the backwoods of Kentucky).

I saw Huey Lewis & the News once. I was amazed at how good they sounded live, especially 20+ years after their heydey. It really made the concert awesome because they didn't need autotune or anything to sound good, it was just some dudes who actually had talent performing live. Most concerts I've been to, the singers sound nothing like their tracks. One was so bad I actually left early haha.

Garbage in a smallish venue for the "sextasy ball," while trippin' balls.

Lots of close seconds though...Jane's Addiction, Primus, first Lollapalooza, Woodstock 94, Porno for Pyros at Roseland, Live, many many others.

Surprisingly, it might be James Taylor. It may be because I went in with low expectations, but I was impressed with his (non?)presentation. Otherwise Sigur Rós Takk tour was exceptional. Visually appealing, while being subtle. It goes without saying the music was impeccable.

~1980, I saw Johnny Winter at the Second Chance bar in Ann Arbor, MI. A guitar god. Now, at the time Johnny was't packing the 50,000 seat stadiums, but he could fill all the 10,000 seat arenas he wanted to. He played that small venue because like he said he loved it as much as I did. It was two stories with a bar up in the balcony too. The dance floor was sunken and all the tables were on these raised tiers like a movie theater coming away from the dance floor and the stage. There were no bad sight lines anywhere in the house. The worst seat couldn't have been more than 75 feet from the stage. Johnny played well past 2 am.

The Temper Trap in 2012 was something special. Small House of Blues venue, damn near flawless performance.

Any Mumford and Sons show. We went just 2 weekends ago, and they still never disappoint. Their Gentlemen of the Road tour back in 2013 was fantastic as well.

Been to hundreds of concerts, other than the obvious grateful dead concerts that i've been to (which are all great BTW) one concert I went to in the mid 80s that I was shocked that it was actually very good, was a FIXX concert at the felt forum. Was in awe that they could actually do a concert. But my all time favorite concert was The police at shea stadium in 83.

Been to WAY too many concerts to pick a "favorite" - everything from small basement punk shows (usually the best), to huge arena packed events (usually cool just for pute spectacle of it all)

Probably the best, most energetic, most "holy shit, what am I part of here?!?!" was Monotonix (with Call Me Lightning, Centipedes and Terrior Brute -- bands I am sure nobody has heard of -- opening)

If you've never witnesses Monotonix, you're missing out. Here's 1 part of the show I'm speaking of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWJ6yoey9A4

Here's Call Me Lightning at the same show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7Vjnz3IdV8

Jim Rose Circus, Marylin Manson, Nine Inch Nails (93 I think?) epic.

close followup: Tenacious D - I forget the year, but right after the release of the first album.

Hey Oyeve,

Are you another "Deadhead?" I have a friend who has been to more Dead concerts than the total number of concerts I've been to. He lives in San Fran now listening to the Dead on vinyl, he says that there is no substitute! Peace Bro.

Easy, NIN @ Wiltern 9/10/09. Trents first retirement show. Some 32 songs, 2 or 3 encores, 3+ hours of epicness.

My first concert, Korn + Deftones + Incubus in a small nyc venue (before they were huge). The crowd and energy were simply amazing.

But sheer fun would be Beastie Boys and Tribe Called Quest, RIP.

Should probably include Roger Waters - The Wall, and Ozzy (2011?). Ozzy put on a full 3 hour set, only taking the occasional break to sip some tea. Not sure how he does it.
