Oh man, if I can think of the best times played, Unreal Tournament 99 in it's heyday. Love me some Deck16!

Baldur's Gate 2 was so amazing, and I couldn't stop thinking about the plot in Planescape Torment during my first playthrough.

Total Annihilation was fantastic. My buddy and I were in college and had networked computers in our tiny apartment. Between TA, Warcraft II, and networked Doom II, we didn't sleep much.

I can't pick a favorite. I've played Falcon 4 and its latest mods off and on since it came out way back in 98/99. Operation Flashpoint/ArmA since the original in 01?. Total War series since the first Rome. Battlefield since the release of 2, and it probably gets most of my time.

Right now it's Tales of Maj'Eyal. That will probably stay the case until Borderlands 3 comes out.

Gnomoria is a game similar to Dwarf Fortress, but with a far more intuitive user interface. The mining mechanics are the same as they were in Dungeon Keeper. It isn't the best game in the world, but the complexity makes it fun building up a kingdom that is self sufficient and can defend itself from invaders.

Not a PC game but Speedball 2 Brutal Deluxe on Amiga is my all time favourite game. Might be a bit simple by today's standards but nothing beats the gameplay. I had blisters on my palms from playing that game so much.

Currently I've loved playing Europa Universalis 4. From older games I have fond memories of Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2. Loved those games and I actually replayed them some months ago.

Probably Portal 1 + 2, although I really enjoyed Deus Ex Human Revolution, Far Cry 3 and Bioshock Infinite. I'm probably going to replay Deus Ex if something interesting doesn't come out soon.

I dont like Starcraft btw. =P

I was thinking about getting that Rome II game but it appears to have been one of the buggiest turds of all time.

not sure

supreme commander is great but i have not played it enough and it does not seem to have some of the magic that total annihilation had

i like the old westwood games as well as the games from ensemble studios

thought sins of a solar empire was good

they should work from that game and redesign the map and some of the diplomatic and strategic stuff like trading and cultural crap

kings and castles should come out right now in a perfect world

I would say the current popular games arent that great.
I still prefer slightly older stuff like Act of War, Age of Mythology, and Dawn of War 1.
Much prefer Galactic Civilizations 2 over almost all the newer 4x games.

the only thing thats gotten consistently better is the Total War series. Rome 2, Shogun 2, and Medieval 2 are all much better than their elders.

Got to break this down into 4 categories for me.

Best RPG:
Baldurs Gate 2. Most time played of any RPG? Oh yeaaaa by far.

Best strategy game:
Jagged Alliance with Panzer General a close second.

Best multiplayer game:
Myth: The Fallen Lords. Many a late night spent playing with friends then dreaming of exploding wights in Creep on the Borderlands.

MMOs:
Everquest especially the harsh early years. Despite the name, questing wasn't really part of the game, grouping was. There was an amazing community built up because of that. I'm still amazed to this day how people would go out of their way to help with a corpse run. Was tough to leave but was really burned out after playing almost non stop for 3 years since release.

DAoC until ToA ruined it. Best PvP I've ever seen and was a casual's paradise until ToA.

RIFT. Sort of regret leaving after just a year. Loved the soul system and playing with different builds. Loved the raids but wasn't thrilled with anything outside of raids. Game really needed some huge public dungeons with rare spawns ala Everquest to chill out in after/between a raid.
