I don't have a favorite game but I am a HUGE fan of mid to late 80's Sega arcade games, which include games like Space Harrier, Outrun, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Fantasy Zone, Wonder Boy, Afterburner..etc. Man..those were great times...

Most engrossing game:

Alternate Reality series on the Atari 800 and C=64.
Street Fighter 2
Total Annihilation
Baldur's Gate 2
Origional Unreal Tournament
BF 1942
World of Warcraft

I'd be scared to get the total number of hours that those games have sucked outta my life...

Close Second Freespace 2, I wish someone would buy the license from Interplay and make a new game or two.

Yeah it would be nice to see an official release of another Freespace game but the fan made stuff has some pretty damn good mods. They've upgraded the graphics for it and have ported the original Freespace to Freespace 2. The Babylon 5 mod is really well done.

Usually a shooter, right now F.E.A.R. is my favorite until I finish it but a couple weeks ago Serious Sam 2 was number one until I finished it too. I need another good shooter after this!

I like Hoyle Casino too.

Try Far Cry if you haven't already, it's a great shooter game.

I second that, it's a lot of fun.

And then try Quake 4 if you haven't tried it yet.
Thanks, I've played Q4 all the way through once and am going thru it again... gotta love it on a new C2D system with a better videocard .

And I played FarCry and got fairly far through it until it just seemed impossible to beat at one point. I like a challenging game(Hey, I played Doom3 all the way through on regular setting and didn't cheat) but FarCry just seemed ridiculous... then I did a format and forgot about that game... maybe I will give it another shot.

Right now I am playing F.E.A.R. Extraction Point and it's much like FEAR. Almost too much like it, hehe. Although my newly rebuilt system plays it smooth like buttah.

Super Smash Brother series. Endless button mashing fun and an excellent party game because give someone a few games and they can start getting kills. Also melee has some amazing strategy behind it if you dive deep enough in to learn it.

The KOTOR series brought me a few hundred hours of fun.

Also Perfect Dark and Goldeneye for the N64 were just amazing. I played those games way way too much.

The Need for Speed series. While they have gone hill in some ways they have improved in others. All around they make great time wasters and are strangely addicting.

Oh also Dota... the only thing Warcraft III is good for that game/map is absolutely amazing.

Okay I guess CS:S too I wasted a good solid year playing that game.

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries

It is easily my favorite game of all time. The sheer number of Mechs, weapons, missions, etcetera gave it a huge open-ended feel as well as it taking place at one of the most interesting points in the battletech timeline (right before and during the initial clan invasion). This gives it the advantage of being able to realistically reveal new technology as the game progressed as well as make the plot more and more epic... become commander of mercenary unit, become involved with the clans, etcetera.

Furthermore, it demonstrates incredible dedication by a company to continue to improve the game.

After the game had already been out for several months and hardware acceleration really started taking off, they released a 30+ mb patch (huge for us dialup users at the time) which added d3d/glide acceleration as well as completely new textures and effects. Not only that, they changed the salvage system from missions from being scripted (the same stuff each time you completed the mission) to dynamic (suddenly you really wanted to start getting headshots on enemy mechs...). To me this is even more significant than the 64-bit content pack and addition of HDR rendering to Far Cry.

Finally, it was just FUN. The game mechanics, the story, everything flowed well and just ended up in a truly enjoyable playing experience.

Dang, I really need to get that old PII-400mhz with dual voodoo2's running again in windows 9x so I can play it again

Deus Ex managed to do a really great merge between the character interaction and building elements of the RPG and the stealth and action elements of the FPS, and rarely were the small details skimped on. There was plenty of characters and books for interaction with the story, a wide enough variety of weapons that you didn't really need any more, enough augmentations (ie spells) to give you an opportunity to use them in virtually every situation, and the graphics and sound effects were pretty much top-notch at the time. It's nearly a perfect game.

SimCity 2000. I don't play too many games these days, but I'll play some cstrike here and there. I also play sports games on the consoles with my friends. They usually suck though.

For right now, Madden 2007 on the Wii.

Whole new way to play football.

Cant wait for more Pro Sports games for the Wii just to see how the controller works.

I'm very interested in an NCAA College Football game for the Wii.

Fallout 1 & 2. The new Fallout games are a lot of fun but they aren't the same.

All hail X-COM.
That is the only game that ever caused me to lose track of time and space...oh, look, the sun came up.
+great balance between planning and action. Missions weren't too long and it sucked you into trying just one more mission..I'll just see what this mission is about then I'll go to bed..... Over, and over again.
+music and sound effects that really built tension. Classic too, I still hear that door sound being used today.

Beyond that, it's the resource gatherer/builder games for me. StarCraft, AoE, stuff like that. Loved Morrowind too, but got sick of walking.

I love that game. First game I played that combined FPS with an RTS.

Grim Fandango - the story, the art, the humor. Best adventure game I've ever played.
Mass Effect series (ME1) - concept/story, epic scale, game play
Diablo series (DII) - addictive, loot
Wing Commander series (WC3) - story, game play/flight sim.
