I actually like Sam Adams Oktoberfest. I despise their regular brew, as I don't like hops.

I'm not one to pick favorites. I'm not a "Insert label here" drinker. I drink what sounds good at the time. Which depending on the environment, meal I'm eating, time of year, and group I'm people with can vary widely.

That being said, I do have specific tastes that enjoy more than others and turn to home brewing for that. I love rich, heavy, black as night chocolate stouts. The last batch I did was incredible.

Very few brewers are able to provide that style and at the cost I pay to make it (around a $1 a bottle). So that's hard to compare.

The funny thing about these chicks is they just milk the fucking beer anyway. They brag about it's uber alcohol content and talk about how 'average' guys couldn't handle them...yet they are downing one 6%+ beer for every 6 anyone else at the bar does.

It's fine to like a beer or two that is unique, but don't be a freaking little whiny bitch if the bar doesn't have it esp when they have it at least in a bottle.

We have a place in town with something like 200+ beers on tap. You will still here someone crying about not having something.

You bitch more about people not having stella than the actual people that bitch about not having stella.

Really? I'm not one for hops either and that's why I usually steer away from most American ales towards the German wheat beers. I also like Killians as a general drinking beer too for reasons mentioned earlier.

I pair different beers with different foods, like a few particulars when I'm actually thirsty, and don't drink often enough to have a every day, cheap, so I drink it a lot, beer. I probably drink more red stripe than anything else though.

Never saw it here. We have very limited selection... Youngs is only available at ONE bar in town, or by the case at ONE distributor. Same with Sammy Smith.
Last time Iwas there, they did not have rogue's chocolate.

Will have to check it out sometime soon.

You poor guys and lack of good beer. Thank god for Binny's Beverage Depot all around the Chicago area.

Rogue is pretty common these days, too. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find it. Though I prefer Shakespeare stout to their chocolate...

But yeah, good luck at bars. Not too many would have Rogue on tap. Find an alcohol specialty store. They'd be almost guaranteed to have some Rogue style in stock.

I live in PA...you can only buy beer from a bar or a distributor.

We're not as advanced as some of you fancy states are.

I flew an entire case of the 120 minute back with me from Pittsburgh to Atlanta (Illegal in GA) I'm in the process of aging quite a few of the bottles. It's great but not as good of an all around beer as the 90 minute.

EDIT: If you can get your hands on their Midas touch, it is REALLY good too.

My favorite beer in all the world is Caffrey's Irish Ale -- but it's no longer imported into the United States, and can only by had by special order.

The closest I have found locally to me is Wexford Irish Cream Ale, and it is pretty good. Also a big fan of Young's Double Chocolate Stout.

If you like Sam Adam's Octoberfest, I suggest when summer roles around again to try their Summer Ale. There's a similarity in the two that I detect but don't really know what exactly that is. I'm new to the whole drinking beers for taste thing since I just became legal a month ago. Prior, and on weekends, it's still all about the beer than is cheap and can be downed quickly. Such is the college life.

And give the Budweiser American Ale a try. Cheaper than Sam Adams, and again, there's something familiar in drinking it and comparing it to the Sam Adams I've tried. The American Ale might be more hoppy though, but again, not sure as I haven't tried any wheat beers and haven't had a chance to compare a known hoppy beer to a beer that isn't hoppy in flavor.

Stone brewing : Pale Ale and IPA
Kona Brewing Longboard Island Lager for something a little lighter (similar to Sam Adams, not quite as hoppy).
Becks
Coors Light when pounding at tailgates.

My safe choices are Sam Adams, Michelob Golden Draft, and Leinenkugel's.

Anything with "pale ale" in the name gets avoided. Tends to be way too bitter for me, especially India Pale Ale.

Two Hearted Ale is one of my favorite beers! Very delicious IMO because it has so many finishing hops.

Other great beers on my all time favs:

Lagunita's Censored
Avery Hog Heaven
St. Bernardus abt 12
Youngs Special London Ale

St Bernardus 12 is seriously very good. It's def my favorite beer in my small time of post college gourmet beer drinking. I've been on a belgian kick as of late.

Yup.

Alaskan IPA is in 2nd place this week.

I've got a 4 pack of the 90 minute IPA in the fridge. I even got a price on the 120 minute, $129 for a case of six 4packs.

Picked up two 4 packs of Dogfish Head Midas Touch along with Dundee Octoberfest and a Shiner Black Lager.

Just finished a couple 4 packs of Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale. Those were nice and full bodied.

I haven't tried the Midas Touch yet - quite a story how it was reverse-engineered from residue in a vessel found in Midas' tomb. I tried the Aprihop, which was pretty good, and the Indian Brown, not as good. As much as I like the 90, I didn't care much for the 120.
