This thread dedicated in loving memory of Ginger, ghost recon88's loss.

Only dog I've had was a lab/Doberman cross wonderful dog she was! Best temperament of any dog I've ever met. She passed away (well we had to put her down) almost 9 years ago now. I've been thinking of getting another dog at some point in the future. Several breeds come to mind as favourites. I feel that mixed breeds often are some of the very best! In rough order of my favourite breeds:

Labs
Rhodesian Ridgeback
Goldens
Hungarian Vizsla
Beagle

And especially any mixed breeds of the above.

Of the dogs I've owned and the dogs I've known, our golden is the winner. She's an incredible dog all around.

So, I'll have to say goldens but I don't know if all goldens are like our own.

I have owned lots of dogs and loved them all. Some have been purebred and some have had so many different breeds in their ancestry that it was impossible to tell what they were made of. I generally like the larger breeds with either a sporting or working backgrounds. My favorites are labs, goldens, German Shepherds, the various sled dogs, setters, etc.

By far the smartest dog I ever owned (or that ever owned me) was a beagle-terrier-whatever mix that we rescued from the local pound. When she was a puppy she had the typical puppy desire to chew. She grabbed anything, shoes, books, clothing, whatever she could reach. To coax her into returning it we'd offer her a treat. She quickly outgrew the chewing, but never forgot that lesson. For the rest of her life if she wanted a treat she'd steal something. She wouldn't chew it, she'd just bring it to whoever was nearby. She'd sit there with the stolen booty in her mouth and wait to be noticed. If you ignored her she'd woof a little. If that failed she'd nudge your hand or foot. If that failed she'd shake her head and fling the shoe right at you. It was impossible to ignore her and she refused to take no for an answer. Whenever she demanded a treat she got one. It was adorable. Later in life she developed diabetes, got cataracts and eventually went blind. That didn't slow her down at all. She memorized the layout of the house and would never bump into anything. She could even play her favorite game, fetch, totally blind. You could throw her tennis ball and she'd be able to retrieve it by sound and smell alone. What a great dog she was.

My Pyrenees/Lab mix is awesome. The lab in him comes out when you want to play and the Pyr keeps him nice with the kids and able to just hang out if nobody wants to play at that moment.

Puppeh!
