So it'd be like making 20K in Texas if you factored in the retarded high cost of living here

The poll started out normal, then spiked on the 150k end. Should have known better.

47k base, I work Sunday through Thursday, so that's time and a half every sunday. That's 208 extra hours per year, and with 2x time for holidays as well, assuming I work four of them (safe bet since I'm not religious and we get easter, christmas eve, christmas) and six others, that's 240 bonus hours. That's six extra weeks of pay: ~5400, hence 52k/year in the Midwest.

Edit: I too, am a reboot monkey (Data Center tech)

Where you live should also be included in responses.

Since making $100k and living in NYC would be like making $40-50k anywhere else.

Student. I haven't the slightest clue why people are so shy about how much they make, there is no need to advertise it from the rooftops, but if someone asks I see no reason not to answer.

And that's b/c you are a student. How would you like it if you knew someone was making more money than you for the same position and doesn't perform the job well?

Morale-wise, no good comes from knowing your peers' salaries.

I agree from an intra-company standpoint, but that reasoning shouldn't carry over in this setting as we are all at different companies, in different locales and in varying industries.

In some cases, it could provide a much needed wake-up call to someone who is grossly underpaid. Just playing Devil's Advocate here.

Profession: Student Worker For Athletics Website.
Salary: $5.85, but when I return from my break and they haven't given me the raise they promised I'll be quitting.

Also, my boss is leaving and the athletics website is being outsourced. Perfect time to leave or demand a huge raise since I'm the only one who knows any of the programming side of the website.

I highly doubt I would be pissed off.

no one will believe him anyway...

by even saying what he said sets him up to be disbelieved, and furthermore, makes everyone want to know what he says he makes even more.

In the military, your pay is public knowledge and it's really not a big deal.

I'll tell my friends if they ask, but it's not really the business of anyone here. I'm not shy about it, that doesn't mean I'm going to tell you.
