Sure, gay marriage sounds fine too. With beastiality though, the beasts aren't consenting adults, so...Originally posted by: saymyname

I think you should be able to marry cousins or siblings... just not have children with them.
I see a gay marriage or beastuality link here....
That's why we're all retarded.Originally posted by: dopcombo
It's actually fairly common in certain societies, middle eastern, indian and asian comes to mind.
The risks of birth defects are not significantly higher in cousin marriages (as compared to siblings), and its more a matter of social conditioning than anything else.
I think long ago, when villages were only the size of 100 people, it was inevitable that marriages would be formed between relatives.
Heck, a certain religion I know claims that a bunch of people went on to colonise the earth. I'm not sure what that makes them. :)

Are there actually any (US) laws against cousins marrying? Or is it just one of those things everyone assumes?
I wouldn't, but if two people can handle the stigma, I'm not going to cry foul without a good reason to.

FAMILY CODE

SUBTITLE C. DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE
CHAPTER 6. SUIT FOR DISSOLUTION OF MARRIAGE
SUBCHAPTER C. DECLARING A MARRIAGE VOID
GO TO TEXAS CODE ARCHIVE DIRECTORY
Tex. Fam. Code § 6.201 (2005)
§ 6.201. Consanguinity
A marriage is void if one party to the marriage is related to the other as:
(1) an ancestor or descendant, by blood or adoption;
(2) a brother or sister, of the whole or half blood or by adoption;
(3) a parent's brother or sister, of the whole or half blood or by
adoption; or
(4) a son or daughter of a brother or sister, of the whole or half
blood or by adoption.
edit2: i don't see cousin in that list. i see aunts and uncles. i see nephews and nieces. no cousins.

What is your opinion on cousin marriages?

Seems to be rather popular among the middle east. Of course, it's not the only place cousin marriages take place.
What are your opinions?

nope, cousins are sideways on the family tree, not up or down. ancestor would be parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. descendant is children, grandchildren, etc.

if they're cousins by marriage (i.e. not blood related), it's only sightly tiny weird.
if they're blood related, though - not cool!
