As well as your city and car/transport. I'm interested in seeing higher rent with public transit vs lower rent with car payment. Include utilities please.

For me:
Rent - 40%
Subway - 5%

This is in London.

OP, many people own their own place and may/may not have a mortgage. Recommend asking what % of net income is rent/mortgage.

For me: 0%

Rent ~16%
Car payment ~9%
Gas maybe 8%

That's with overtime, though - increase everything by about 20% at straight time.

Rent with utilities is 29% of gross income (not sure about net)
bus pass is 2.2% of gross income
car insurance is 6.5% of gross income

I live in Edmonton and I'm a draftsman, mostly electrical but some of it is civil.

Good question... Less than 10% (finances just changed recently [for the worse]). Been saving for a house.

No car payments and we should be able to buy a house cash by the end of the year (nothing fancy or awesome). Of course that is the current goal. My goal was to own a house cash by 30 and if we do it this year I'll be 28. So I technically have 2 years leniency.

~33% that includes utilities, lawn care and armed guards. I live on base housing : )

People that own should probably figure their propety tax/maintainance.

my rent is about 20% of my net... it would probably be about double that without the "family discount," though.

Housing is 25% of my monthly take home pay after taxes (does not include wife's income). This is on purpose. If my wife or I lost a job we would still be able to meet our housing responsibility.

All my vehicles are paid for but I dump $475/month into my "car" fund anyway. At some point in the next year or two, I'll buy a new car and when I'm ready I'll pay cash.

Mortgage is 20% of net take home pay each month.

In two weeks there will be no car payments at all.

This is about 20 miles outside the Twin Cities in MN.

25% of my net. God damn taxes they take out so much. But then I get 10K bonus, which should bring it down to 22%~ or so.
