Work partials. ONLY go to just a few inches before your form breaks and where you can't pull back. It doesn't matter how far your range is, just work at it. You will be able to nail eventually. Little by little you can increase your ROM and strength.

If you can only manage 3, only do 2 with perfect form and more sets to get your volume in.

Thanks, mate! Appreciate the advice.

I'm closing in on the point where I get watched during most of my lifts, but they aint for show. I'm still incredibly far away from my goals though.

I worry a lot about if/when my routines will become primarily for show. As it is, I work out at home; working out at the gym doesn't jive with my personality. So, there is no "showboating" involved.

The "vanity" I had referred to, was just a personal thing. A goal set by myself, for myself. However, I also get the point of having pride in mastering something through tons of hard work and dogged determination. Nothing wrong with that either.

People will stare when I do my OLifts as it looks random and most people have no idea what I'm doing.

I don't know if its a "vanity exercise" but I've always loved the bent arm dumbbell pull over. I won't join a gym unless they have at least 150lb dumbbells. I don't do them for any other reason than I like doing them and they make feel good.

I need them for my one arm bent rows.

i kinda misunderstood the topic of this thread but I figured i would give my answer anyways. My vanity lift as in I really doubt its going to add any size to me is the crossover cable flys. I like watching myself in the mirror when doing these. So for me thats just something I do very rarely for the fun of it.

Cool man. What numbers do you put up and are you self taught or coached?

Koing

Self taught. Right now I am not doing super heavy numbers....focusing mostly on form. One thing I learned with Olympic Lifting is that just because you made a lift doesn't mean you are ready to increase weight. Proficiency is more important.

I am at 185 hang power clean and push jerk as well as clean and push jerk and use 135 for both snatch and power snatch.

I have done a 185lb full depth squat jerk and snatch balance. I did a 205lb push jerk the other day as I am ready to move my clean and jerk up to 205lbs now, but I have yet to attempt it. Just being patient. My goal is 225lbs.

Here is a vid of me doing a clean grip overhead squat with 135lbs:

Was doing this to develop the neuromuscular pathways in order to start doing squat jerks because Lu Xiaojun makes me want to even though I don't have to lol...

In high school it was bench for me. Went from 95 lbs max to 185 lbs in less than 6 months. I weighed about 125 at the time(both times).

After the high school, it was the dips. I could do those all day.

Now, there are no vanity exercises. I need to get back to exercising.

Cool. Really good mobility. I'd move your feet out a tad as it makes squatting down more stable and move your Clean grip out a bit wider as well.

Apti is a very good lifter, he has a wider than usual stance before his power/ squat jerk.

I dabbled a bit with the squat jerk. I think I did about 100kg about 5yrs ago? Split for me is much easier and the same for 19/20 people. But the squat jerk does look VERY BAD ASS though.

I'd avoid the power versions and focus on lots of bar work if you want to nail down the lifts. They never teach you to get under the bar properly and that is the hardest part of weightlifting.

That is true. I do both though to give my legs a bit of a break. I usually full snatch and back squat on Monday, Hang Clean and pull ups on Tuesday, Wed off, Thursday is Power/Push Jerk along with close grip bench, and Friday is full clean and then extra front squat work and maybe some power snatch's focusing on speed. I also do dead hang cleans and snatch's off of benches and the bars in the power rack at different heights...which to be honest has helped me more than anything.

I have since moved my grip out a little for the jerk since I also moved my grip out on the clean as well....so whenever I do clean grip overhead squat or jerk balance I am in a more stable position. My feet may be a little wider now as well, but I just stick with what is comfortable and super wide for me does not feel right...so somewhere along the middle is good. Just enough room to drop my hips in between my feet, but feet close enough to stay under my center of gravity.
